Camping Suggestions Needed

We just bought a bunch of camping gear today and we want to go camping next weekend. Since we are taking all the kiddos we just want to go one night this time to try it out and want to stay fairly close to home in Denton. I will be willing to travel up to 45 min to an hour. Any suggestions? *Edited to add* Are you allowed to bring beer on the campgrounds? I'm thinking no since it is a State Park.

What can I do next?

We live in Corinth and we go no further than Hickory Creek at Lake Lewisville. We love it. The grounds are nice. They have great bathroom facilities. They power wash and keep them clean every day. That is a major thing for us with little ones. I can't enjoy myself if I'm worried about the need to go to the bathroom! You know what I mean! They have non reservable sights you can go out and rent or reservable ones at recreation.gov.

Definitely Johnsons Branch at Ray Roberts. There are playgrounds for the kids and in the afternoon when it warms up they you can play on the "beach." On a windy day you'll probably be able to watch wind sufers do their thing. Totally fun to watch!

I'm just seconding the suggestions given. We are planning an overnight camping trip to Ray Roberts in a few weeks. I love that it is close, just in case we need to come back home, and it is inexpensive because it is a state park. I hope you have fun!

Lake Ray Roberts has the best camping. Go to Johnsons branch. good hiking, nice easy trails, good camping spots wiht tent spots, clean nice showers and bathrooms. About 20 minutes from Denton. We go so often, we buy the yearly pass.

Lake Ray Roberts! The lake isn't even as old as I am, and I remember when they were "prepping the area" for the water (back in the late 60's). It's on the east side of Valley View (north of Denton). Make sure you pack extra blankets, especially for the little ones. They will feel the cold air faster than you will.

Here's the link to the website for the parks at the lake:

WELCOME TO TEXAS!!
