I am a single mom to 2 boys, ages 5 & 7. I would like to take them camping to a kid friendly site that is also safe. We live by the Woodlands. Do you know a good place that they can enjoy the outdoors and also has a beach type area to swim in, bike trails? Thanks

What can I do next?

It depends on how far you want to travel. If you're up for a drive, Mustang Island State Park is absolutely gorgeous! Our other favorite park is Inks Lake - about 4 hours away as well but just fabulous. We also enjoyed Rusk / Palestine - but the train only runs sometimes so check into that. It's well worth the trip b/c my kids LOVED the train ride. For something closer, check out Brazos Bend, Lake Livingston (they have a pool) or even Yogi Bear Park out by Hempstead. If you type "Texas State Parks" in your search engine, you can look at all the TX state parks by location. Good luck and have fun!

Hi C.,
I a mother of two boys 6 and 11 and we love to camp. Last year we found this camping site by Lake Livingston. It is called something like "Wolf camping park." It has a beach and bike trails. It is not big but looks great. I actually wanted to go there this weekend but have not made the reservations and it might be too late now. I have their info. filed so if you are interested I'll find it for you. Maybe we can plan to meet there!! Just a thought!
