Hello moms. I am looking for a place for our family of six to spend a few days camping in April. We are beginner campers, but hope to do this more often as the kids get older. I do have 2 two year olds, so anyplace with too much hiking might not work this time around. We are hoping to not have to drive more than a couple of hours. Thanks in advance.

Check out Huntsville State Park. It is near Huntsville on I-45. These links do not seem to be working but you can copy and paste them into your browzer. They have alot of good information about parks in the area.

We love Doublelake in the Sam Houston Nat'l Forest. It's near coldspring, about an hour away. Try reserve.gov and reserveamerican.com for setting up reservations.
Lake Livingston has a nice camping area, we were just there in February. Lake Houston has a nice camping area as well, we were there in January (we camp a lot with Scouts). If I'm not mistaken, Livingston is a State Park, and the place by Lake Houston is run by the city.
Look into Yogi Bear Park, there is one near Waller, Texas.
I also have an almost 6 year old, a 4 year old and 18 month identical twin girls.
I believe the Y opened up a new family campground in the Houston area this year.
