Building a Website for an HOA but Not Sure How.

I am thinking about building a website for a support group. All the sites I have seen have checkouts and cost a bit of money or are more for groups that meet like meetup. I am looking for a place online where I can post a calender, post news and have a message board, maybe even a chat room for not a lot of money since I'll probably have to pay for it. Does anyone know of somewhere like that? I'm decent online but am by no means a techy person so it would need to be somewhat easy. Oh and it needs to be private.

Thank you for any suggestions or direction you can give me.

You can also use www.bigtent.com which can be set up to be private but you can also see a calendar. The best part of the calendar is that unlike Yahoo groups you can actually see who has RSVP'd. It is also free!

I don't know how much it cost because I wasn't involved in the development, but my old HOA in Falls Church, VA used www.hoatown.com to develop their page. It's private too.

I don't have a suggestions for websites to use for hosting, but I maintain our church's website (someone else created it initially). If you will be the only person maintaining it; be prepared for it to take some time to keep it updated, particularly if it is changing frequently. I am a working mom with three kids, and I find I don't usually have the time to keep our church's site as up to date as it should be. Thankfully, there is enough good, static content on our site that not keeping the events and pictures updated doesn't appear to keep people from coming to our church!

Yahoo Groups is free and has a calendar you can utilize along with a lot of other great features like the ability for you and the other members of the group to post news and info and have a message board along with the option to make it private. I can't remember if they have a chat room built in to it. It's very easy to start and maintain the group online through this site, I've done one in the past: http://groups.yahoo.com/.

I know Yahoo has groups. Our booster club for cheerleaders has a site on google with calendar, notices, etc.

Not sure what you are looking for but our HOA uses eneighbors.com

My husband is a geek and did build a website for the HOA but it does take time to develop then keep up. Apparently this eneighbors was easy to get up and going. I'm not sure of the cost though since we're not on the board anymore.

My MOMS club uses Yahoo groups and it does have a calendar, group email options, and individual posts options, among others. Without reinventing the wheel, it's a good option. Check it out, at least.

A 10 year old girl that I know, has shown me how to make a website on webs.com. It is free and so easy. It walks you step by step and there are tutorials. But, I do belong to several yahoo groups and love it.

I am pretty sure you can set up a Yahoo Group that is private (you would approve each member). I think you can do calendars, discussions, etc. Not entirely sure but it's a free thing so you might check it out. http://groups.yahoo.com/start
