Seeking On-line Calendar

Does anyone have an online calendar to suggest for keeping my husband up to date on what's going on with our family? It seems that I used to know of one (free), but it was less relevant then. Now he works 50+ hours/week and is grouchy when he doesn't know what's going on at home, especially what to expect in the evenings. However, he won't keep up with a paper calendar nor the family calendar on the refrig. Any online ideas?

I don't know if anyone has suggested it yet, but you should give Sandy a try. Site is http://iwantsandy.com/ and it's free, easy to set up/use and works great for people who don't like paper! lol

You should try the Gmail calendar by Google. My husband and I can share calendar's and even add and edit each others information. It is free, and you can even have a free gmail account, if you don't have one already. Good luck!

I looked for a long time and finally narrowed it down to 3 that I would recommend. Cozi, YadaHome, and the most simple and easy to use, Google. I have used it the most. Yada Home is fun because it is an entire website devoted to getting organized and it can be shared. Hope this helps.

If you set up a yahoo email account there is a great calendar on there; that is how I keep track of everything. You can set it to send up to two email reminders and can have an update notice sent to other emails. If you set up a family email account everyone could use the calendar and receive the email updates.

Yahoo's calendar can be synchronized with a Blackberry - that might work for you.

I use Outlook for my hubby. I put everything on it, where I'm going to be, dr.s appts, special events for the kids, basically anything I want my sweetie to be aware of. It works great for us because I can include phone numbers of where I'll be and special notes.

The honey and I use www.pbwiki.com, we just use the free trial (and we just make our own calendars) otherwise you can upgrade to have more features and a standard homepage calendar. Living an hour away and both being so busy it really helps!! I hope you find a system that works :)

My husband has downloaded a calendar called Kana Reminder. You can keep current by writing your schedule and asking it to remind you. Each day you ask for a reminder it will make your computer ring until you turn it off(like an alarm clock).

also keep in mind that most cell phones have a calendar in the tools section of the menu. if the two of you can't easily access a calendar that comes with most email programs (i use hotmail and then have it email the schedule to everyone and also send out alerts), you could at minimum update his phone as necessary.

I downloaded Cozi. It even has pictures and is really neat. Just trying to get everything organized on it.

It's FREE too.

Cozi.com is free, and I really like it. It allows you to even store your shopping list and even send it to your cell phone. The calendar is color coded to each person in your family. It has both a web interface and a client that can be installed on your computer.

Check to see if you have an outlook calendar on your computer or a microsoft works. They are really easy to use. You could even email him reminders for appointments for him to put in his calendar at work. I could help you with getting these appointments set up if you have one of those programs. Good luck and email me if I can help you out.

Hey K.! WOW..sounds like a BUSY family!

The important thing to think about is what your husband will respond to. If he isn't working with a paper system then perhaps your hunch of using technology may just do the trick!
Is he into technology? Computers, PDAs etc?

Does he have a Blackberry or other smartphone/PDA?
If he does, you may try using Outlook. Chances are you already have it! He can download the Outlook schedule right to his phone then can dock his phone everyday to keep up with the family schedule.

If he doesn't have a Blackberry/PDA then I might suggest using the Hotmail online calendar. Its free and I LOVE IT! It is what I use to keep up with my business team who is scattered all over the US. VERY powerful calendar system and VERY user friendly. Give it a whirl! www.hotmail.com

Best blessings to you and your family!

My sister can't live without her Outlook calendar! She even got a new phone that she can sync it to. I have yet to try it, otherwise, just like most everyone else, I like the google calendar. I guess it's a good thing I wrote and told you that...just in case you weren't already convinced. ;D heehee! J/K!

I agree with the others who have said Google calendars. Just like google documents, the person who sets it up can make whoever they want an author so it can be edited, and the calendar will only be seen by people you share it with.

Google Calendar is great. You can set up different calendars to display on the same screen (they all display on the same "calendar" but in different colors if you want them to, like a "personal" calendar vs. a "work" calendar or something like that). And you can invite other people to see the calendar. You just need a google account.

Here is the website:

I don't know about an online calendar but for my husband I find he does use his work based outlook calendar. I have found if I want my husband to remember something I need to email him so he can put it on that work calendar. This method has come the closest to working so far. Good luck.

I use the gmail calendar. You can made calendars shared and it can be really detailed, with space to add comments about items on the calendar. And because google is so easy to use, the calendar is too.

For our family of five, we use Yahoo groups. It has a calendar that can be accessed by any computer and sends reminders of important events. My husband loves MS Outlook at work, but it doesn't work so well for a family organizer for us. Best of all, it is free.

My husband wont use a paper calendar, but loves the google calendar. It's nice because we can each have one and view each others as well. You can even have multiple calendars that you can view/edit at a time.

It's not online, but my husband and I use Microsoft Outlook. It is our email program, and it also has contacts, calendar, and task lists. I put all our family appointments/events in there, and if it's something my husband needs to know about, I send him an "invitation". It will show up in his email, and if he accepts it, it automatically puts the appointment in his calendar and emails me back that he has recieved it. My favorite part is that you can set up reminders for events, and a window will pop up on your screen with the reminder. That way if you're not looking at the calendar, you still see the event. Also, you can easily schedule recurring events, like "piano lessons every week on Thursday" or "PTA meeting every 3rd Tuesday of the month." It is a really useful program that I highly recommend. I think it comes with the Microsoft Office Suite, so you would also get Word, Excel, etc. with it.

We use the Outlook calendar because you can share entries as long as both of you are using Outlook.

Also yahoo groups is free, anyone can set up a group for anything, then there is a calendar center there. Its very easy. My extended family has one of those to track who is helping with Grandpa on which days.

Hi K.
I LOVE Google Calendar!!! It's super easy to use and access. I also has color coordinated groups so you can put in your Husbands work schedule in one group, kids activities in another group, your personal appointments etc. You can look at them all together or only click on the groups you need!
It's amazing! I love it!
Good Luck!

Hi!

I have the same problem and use google actually, through my gmail email account. It'll sync up to entourage or iCal too, so it's handy. It's free with an account. There's also http://www.famundo.com/ but I haven't used that. Good luck!

I love the google calendar, I noticed some people have already told you about it but the part I like best is I am able to make multiple calendars for who needs to know what but it all shows up on one calendar for me. I keep one for the family, one for my Yoga schedule and one for my home based business. You can assign who gets to see what parts of your calendar so my husband gets to see everything but then my Yoga instructors and students only get to see my Yoga schedule and so on... If you have questions I'd be happy to help you set it up!
Good Luck!

Try Keepandshare.com I use this for my family and also for work. It is a calander that you can print off daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly. If you like I like the calander version but there is also one at Kozi.com This one you can handle more than one persons schudule it works really good. It puts everything into a time table. Do you use Hotmail.com There is one there also. With all you can set emails up to his email address to email either week before, or on the day even hours before. Usaly all of our email address programs have a calander that you could use on it. Worth looking into.
