I will be taking my daughter on her first overnight camping trip this weekend. We will be in LIve Oak, Florida in a heavily wooded area. I am looking for a bug spray that is safe and effective. I am very concerned with putting anything on her that is not healthy for her skin to absorb. Any and all suggestions are welcome! Thanks in advance, ladies :)

What can I do next?

Avon bug guard seems to work well up here in SC so you could try that. Otherwise really any bug spray will do it just depends on the amount of DEET that is in them. Avon so far is the only kind that doesn't have DEET that I've found to be effective with the sand fleas (flying nats that bite!) and misquotes. Please also remember to check her and yourself for ticks as it is that time of the year!! I've already removed one from my sock at my DD's softball practice and one off my son's head behind his ear (it was still small and not well attached yet) at her game on Saturday and neither one of us have been playing in the woods!!

Good luck and have fun!!

We've never done any kind of buy sprays, but if you are going to do that, you should not spray her skin, spray her clothing. I'd spray it before she gets dressed so she's not breathing in chemical spray while you're spritzing her.

i have used natrapel on my kids for a while. I got some bottles of it at Toys R Us. I don't know what other stores have it. It is a deet free bug repellent. I also use the skin so soft Avon spray and just rub them down instead of letting the spray fly everywhere when applying it. I live about an hour from Live Oak and I know right now it is very buggy out. Even the beautiful days have bad bugs, so whatever you bring as a repellent, bring a lot of it!

Bug Guard by Avon. If you don't have an avon lady, let me know! Also my mom swears by Skin So Soft from Avon as well.

I'd recommend calling and asking your pediatrician - they're on top of the latest research and policies regarding which to use at which age.

This link show's what advice is available on the parenting website from the American Academy of Pediatrics:
