So What Happened?

I went to Mama Joe's Sunshine Herbals shop in Indian Harbpur beach and got a bug spray that she makes. It smells really good and works great. ( No citronella) smells sort of like lavander and cedar.
The only thing is when we were out back, my son pourded water on my lefs and I think the spary washed off becasue a minute later there was a mosquito on me, other than that I really like it so far.

Avon has some very good and safe lotions and bug sprays. Buy anything from the Skin So Soft line. They do not use Deet! I still wouldn't use the bug spray itself like I would use sun block. However spray it on the clothing as much as you like! The SSS lotions are great too. They really don't say "bug repellent" but they really do work.

Good Morning C.,

Here is an idea for you, my mother-in-law found a product called "No Buzz Zone Patch" mosquito repelent ~ works great! We used it for the first time last night on the 4th and we did not get bit and I ALWAYS get bit. It states on the package 1 patch *no lotions *no spraying *non toxic and *deet free. You can either place the patch on your skin, on the stroller or clothing. For my youngest children I placed it on my daughter's jacket hood (she is 4 1/2 yrs) and on the back of my son's pj's (he is 11 1/2 months old). The company's phone number is 866-662-8991 or their website is www.nobuzzzone.com ~ hope this helps.

Skin so soft from avon, just the lotion no scent no bug repellent, worked great for us as kids, for some reason bugs don't like the smell, even though its not bug spray. They do however now carry one with bugspray but I've always used just the plain lotion because I feel it has less chemicals, as far as all natural I don't know but if you look up Avon in the phone book someone at that number can tell you! Good_luck!!!

Hi C.,

See if your local drugstores or Target carry bug repellants made with "botanical"/plant ingredients only (no DEET.) Ingredients would include things like citronella oil, tea tree oil, geranium, lemon, chrysanthemum. Apparently bugs don't like how these plants smell. If nothing available nearby, you could try online sites including Avalon Organics, Aubrey Organics, and the Whole Foods Market website.

Even "natural" products might bother your little one, just a note incase of asthma. I have found it's good to test it on the child's lower legs/pants. Have also learned not to spray or apply anything on my kids' faces. I have them cover their eyes and mouths with their hands while I spray the back of their necks, hair, and shirts/pants.

Good luck, and that's great that you are looking out to avoid synthetic chemicals around your little one.
