BullFrog has a repellent that has a spf 30, and it is Deet-free. It doesn't smell. My son is allergic to mosquitos and this is what we use for him.
I have tried that band and that thing didn't work for my kids. What brands have you tried that work and that aren't too stinky? I'm looking for the more 'natural' kind. Any ideas are appreciated!

well, I have an idea..I have treid it with my little one and I have also tried it and it worked--get a dryer sheet and rub it all over and then put clothes that you will be wearing and throw them in the dryer...
Tea tree oil will keep the bugs away and will help ‘treat’ any existing bug bites. My favorite bug spray is called, Herbal Armor. It works so good at keeping the bugs away and there is no DEET or chemicals…it’s all natural oils that actually smell good too! This stuff works camping, by the lake, at the cabin…EVERYWHERE! You can find it at Whole Foods or other natural co-ops.
Burts Bees is great, as is Jason's "Quit Buggin' Me".
I have heard that rubbing fresh basil leaves over skin and clothing repells bugs.
Have you tried AVON Skin so Soft? it is natural oils and deters bugs and mosquitos
Hi-
I don't actually have kids, but I have two products I like for me. I can't handle anything with DEET. I use Bullfrog brand "Mosquito Coast" which also has a sunscreen in it, and Burt's Bees repellant which is nice because it smells like lemon drops. I am willing to bet that there are online recipes for all-natural repellants. Bugs tend not to like vanilla, cedar oil, etc. Good luck and best wishes for a bug-proof summer!

Avon Skin So Soft bath oil applied directly to the skin and rubbed in is what we used when I was in the USMC.
i havent tried it but i have heard of putting a dryer sheet in your pocket, avoid eating bananas, and i have also heard tea tree oil, its supposed to be good for any kids of bugs even to spray in the house for creepy crawlers, and a friend of mine says while she was going thru basic and ait they did put the dryer sheets in her posket along with some members of her platoon and the only bugs they had to worry about were the ants but thats cuz they had to sleep on the ground in the field, and her mom swears by the skin so soft avon stuff thats deet free. and i have found the clip on things at walmart.
Burts Bees. remember to spray behind the knees, The neck, The wrist and the ankles with extra good spraying.. These are the "pulse Points" that the misquotes are first drawn to.. ..
We also spray it on top of our heads and walk under it..
In Houston, you may have to consider the big guns and get "Off for children" in the squirt bottle..
Skin so Soft Avon. My sister swears by it and last time we went camping it worked great.
I use Skin So Soft Sun Block and Insect Repellent. The sun block is 30SPF. It has a pleasant smell and is DEET free.
My son has a skin condition that requires us to not use DEET containing products. Also, I don't like all the chemicals so I searched for a natural mosquito repellent that doesn't stink. I came across SKEDATTLE and ordered a bottle last year. I LOVED IT! It works great on both of us as we both have yummy skin. =) I just got another bottle last week for this year. The price is about $12 and with shipping it came to $18. Might sound a little pricey but it did last me all season last year and it is all natural, environmentally friendly. I figured my son was worth $18 a year to keep the chemicals out of his system. You can order it from www.mexitan.com.
Avon Sunscreen and Bug Guard.
There are three things I've heard of that I will be trying this summer. So far, I can't find anything that works!
There is a clip-on insect repellant that has a small fan on it. It clips right on to a person's clothing. I want it! I want it! I'll be getting it soon. I hope it works. It should be available at any local drugstore or department store.
I've heard that if you mix vodka and water and spray it on, it is a great insect repellent. I haven't tried it, but it sounds interesting to me.
The third one is dryer sheets. I've heard (but haven't yet tried) that if you put a dryer sheet in your pocket or rub a dryer sheet on your skin, bugs will stay away.
Good luck!
Citronella comes in an oil that you could add to any lotion or carrier oil. The citronella plant actually helps to keep bugs at bay so have some in the flower bed around the porch or in pots at the entrances to your home.
Jason is a brand of natural products that I carry in my herb shop and have used on my kids for years. They make a whole like of kids products from toothpaste to bug repellent and sunblock. Try their stuff, I have had good luck with it.
In my experience, the "natural" ones do not work. We use Deep Woods Off with great results. It does smell, though.
You can treat your yard, make sure there is no standing water. I have friends that bought a CO2 machine to trap the mosquitos since that is what they are attracted to. It seems to make a difference in their yard.
