My 22 month old son has these faint yellow bruises on his lower belly and his chest area(right below his sternum). They stretch the span of his body from side to side.
We first noticed them at the end of April and have tried to change several things to see if they were the cause. I've had his cousins not lift him anymore, I thought maybe they were being to rough, and I've been giving him a Iron enhanced vitamin hoping that would help. They haven't worsened or improved and I have already decided to take him to his doctor this next week. I was just hoping to see if any one has any similar experience with this or any ideas to the cause of it. if you need more info just let me know, any ideas would be helpful! Thank you!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So, we went to the Dr. today. She said it isn't bruising after all. She actually wasn't that sure of want it could be, so we were referred to a ped. dermatologist. I guess I'll find out next week!

If the baby sad a low iron count that also helps in the cause of bruising. My mom told me about that because my daughter always got bruises and i did as well. The low iron could be a sign of enemia. which can cause a person or child to get bruises easier.

I had a similar situation. My son had bruising colors above his bum area. I had said something to the doctor (a bit reluctantly for I didn't want her to think I was hitting hime which was not the case) and she said that it was his skin's way of getting ready for protecting itself against harmful sun light. I know that sounds wierd, but that is what she said!

My first thought was the car seat - like someone else already stated. That tends to be the culprit on a lot of mystery bruises in the pressure point areas.

Hi T.,
My 2 year old tends to get the same style bruises because she tends to attempt climbing up on everything. We have a baby gate that she tried to hurdle and it usually ends up making the marks. Also, she is trying to climb and cling to counters. Most of the time, I don't know how she does it since she's so short, but lately, I've noticed that her 4 year old sister is finding her things to stand on like toys!

Have you checked his car seat? My son had bruising on his back and the pediatrician said to check the fit of his car seat. Turns out she was right -- it was rubbing him and causing the bruising. Good luck.
