It sounds like "Royal Blood" as they call it, (lol) but i think this is really low iron. There are iron supplements for women that will not constipate you. A really young friend of the family who is 18 swears by centrum silver.

Since I got such great responses on my last post, I figured I'd try out another question.
I am a bit of a clutz and tend to bump into things on a regular basis. Mostly because much of the time I have to do everything for everyone while the hubby is away with work. The problem isn't really the clumsiness, which I am working on with my wii fit, it's more of the after effect of the bumps. I bruise like a rotten banana. By the time the color shows up on my skin, I've already forgotten how it happened, but it lasts SO long!
My Granny is from England, so I guess my pale whiteness comes from that side of the family. But I have what seems to be very thin skin... literally. You can see the veins if you look and bruises ALL the time. Mostly on my legs. Is there anything I can do to help? Any vitamin some of you more naturalist moms may think I'm deficient in? I do plan to go get a spray tan soon... maybe that will help mask it.
So I guess that's my second question... I've never done the spray tan thing. Any pointers? Do I need to exfoliate first? Wear no lotion? I don't have any idea what I'm doing. ;o)
Thanks!

It sounds like you're iron deficient. Do you feel cold a lot, too? That would be another symptom. Start taking a women's multivitamin and that should help. (I still take prenatal vitamins.) I wouldn't recommend just taking an iron supplement because too much iron is not a good thing, either. Talk to your doctor as well if the vitamins don't help. A simple blood test will show what you're lacking! Good luck.
Hi F.,
I taught I was the only one! LOL! But I do get bruised easily and very purplish-black. It goes away after a few weeks. I'm thinking probably something in the blood or circulation. Unfortunaly, I haven't gone to the doctor, either I hate going, cause they never do what they are suppose too or don't have the $$ but either way, I know I should go. But by reading your posting and people posting it, it helps me too! So, Thank You for posting, I'll be reading away!! take care!
There is a cream called thrombosin that will stop a bruise from forming if used at first impact and will make it go away faster once you notice the bruise. It is sold over the counter in drugstores in europe but I can't find it on any of the US drugstore websites. Maybe ask your doctor about a prescription for it. It works wonders for me.

Do your gums bleed when you brush your teeth?
I ask because I suffer a condition called Von Willebrand's disease. Because of a deficiency in the blood factors 8 or 13, I do not remember exactly which, my blood takes a long time to clot. This causes hemorrages, bruising and bleeding gums.
Please check with a Hematologist because I passed genetically this disease to my son. Prior to a surgery they did bloodwork and there it was. He could have bled to death during the operation.
Now we are more alert and careful. In our case, it is not a cosmetic blemish.
I wish only the best for you and your family.
before the spray tan, exfoliate, and do not wear any lotion or deodorant because it will turn green when they spray it!
as for the bruising.....mention this to your doctor; there may be a reason , medically, why you bruise easily. and yes, the spray tan should help cover it!
You may be lacking iron. An iron supplement taken with a glass of OJ everyday should help. Remember that dairy stops some of the absorbtion... so try not to eat or drink dairy for a couple of hours when u take it. Also for a lot of people iron can upset ur normal digetion process and u may need to take a softener or fiber supplement as well.
I met a holistic woman recently and she told me about something but I can't for the life of me remember what it's called. She said you can get it at Whole Foods, so just go there and ask and I'm sure they'll know what it is. It's little tablets that you put under your tongue. She said they are so 100% safe that she gives them to her toddler when he falls and he rarely if ever gets a bruise, and she said it will make bruises that already exsist go away faster.
My mom is the same way! She swears by Arnica. You can find the plant in lots of creams .... natural store would be best ... here is an example of a product I found online .... Arnica Bump and Bruise Relief.
Good luck!
Hi F.. Like you, I bruise easily. I've started applying Arnica gel whenever I bump into something, and it helps a lot! I use it on the kids too. The name of the manufacturer is Boiron. Good Luck!
Hi F.,
There are too many causes of bruising to even guess...I can make a suggestion of an ABSORBABLE multivitamin/mineral complex that does not create free radicals (many minerals do). Any amount of good nutrition will build the immune system so that you can get to the root of what is causing this. Pale skin will make the bruising more prominent (I have it too) but not make it any worse.
I also use a cream anytime I bump myself that prevents the bruise from coming up but I have to get it on there immediately. I'll be glad to get you more information on building the immune system if you're interested.
Regards,
pineapples and iron help with bruising. Good luck.

It is my understanding that easy severe bruising is usually due to a B12 deficiency. Although, I'm no nutritionist and cant say for sure. You could check out WebMD and see what that says.
