Instead of taking advil, Does anybody know how long it takes to notice a difference?
I have plantar in my left foot getting better, but flares up sometimes and was told bromelain takes the inflamation down. L.

Hi Lori,
I'm glad you're giving Bromelain a try, it REALLY made a difference in the healing of my plantar fasciitis! It can take a week or two for it to make a difference, depending upon the severity of the inflammation. I know it's frustrating to have to wait that long, but I'm sure you'll find that it's a MUCH better anti-inflammatory substance in the long run. Also, just a reminder, make sure to take it on an empty stomach, or else the bromelain will be used up in digesting proteins instead of getting rid of inflammation.

Best of luck in the healing of your foot!

I've used bromelain but had much better luck wtih salmon oil. I'm not a real believer and any of these kinds of supplements but when I was ready to get water drained on my knee that hurt I had a physician tell me to try salmon oil first and was shocked by how effective it was. Needless to say, I didn't have to have the knee drained and it's worked wtih other inflamation problems.

Fish oil capsules work wonders for inflamation of all kinds, plus the omega 3's are so good for you. I notice a difference within a few hours. Worth a try!

As other responders have suggested, there are several anti-inflammatory substances that really do help. I've had good luck with all of them:

Bromelain, effective when used between meals;

Turmeric (in capsules to avoid being overwhelmed by the flavor);

Omega-3 oils (I use Krill oil because the fishy burps I get from other fish oils become too distracting for me.)

It's possible that each of these works most effectively for inflammation acting on different areas of the body. I find the turmeric helpful for lungs and joints (it's also believed to help fend off Alzheimer's), fish oils for joints and mood, and so bromelain may be especially good for nerves/tendons in the foot, since it's been recommended for that purpose.

With all of these, I notice only a gradual reduction of the discomfort over several days, but I feel the difference right away if I forget doses for a day or two. Good luck – I hope you get some relief.

I'm not sure about bromelain. I thought that I'd mention that Turmeric (an indian spice) is also an anti-inflamatory. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my knees and hips. I take a 1/2 tsp full twice a day, and it works to make me more functionable. It has a really strong taste, so I usually take it with water when I'm not planning on eating anything for a while (unless I want it to taste like turmeric). I'm not sure if it would work for your use, but figured I'd mention it.

Hi Lori J. I am not sure about Bromelain. I rep for a manufacturing company that makes wellness products and we've got several products that are natural anti-inflamatories. I have been using them for 8 years and they are fair maket priced and green. If you would like to find out about them too let me know.

Personally I take aspirin to reduce joint swellings of all kinds and it also helps many other conditions that have to do with inflammation.
Aspirin has gotten a bad rap in the last 10 years but really it is an old Native American remedy made from white willow bark. Bayer stole it. However, since it is not a prescription drug it is extremely cheap in this country.
