Was your baby early?? Do you feel any tenderness in your breast or any kind of leaking when he/she cries??(Your baby's cries should let your milk down)
Do you have implants or ever had breast surgery? Does your baby latch on? Talk to your Dr. as soon as you can!

I would recommend to keep trying to breastfeed and pump, keep stimulating the breast as much as you can and try drinking herbal tea & Beer helps to let the milk down.. They have teas called "Mother's Milk" to increase production.
Also, try not to stress about it, it will defeat your efforts.(this too is where Beer helps!) My LC recommended this to me at the hospital!!
Keep trying! It's too early to give up! Breastmilk is THE BEST gift you can give your baby!!! I BF all 3 of mine, it is also the most convenient way!!
See if you can get a lactation consultant to come to you.
I'm assuming that your baby is on formula, so always try to BF before you give a bottle.
Good luck!!!

Ivana,
you can get an herb called fenugreek, that helps boost milk production. I would try that and drink lots of water. It has worked really well for me every time I have tried it. You can also pump every hour to help, and nurse every two. Have you tried pumping? Does anything come out? Most important thing is to try not to get stressed out, that will not help your body relax and let you milk come it. Just stay positive and nurse often. I also would contact La Leche League, they really can give you some good tips and advice.

It takes more than 3 days for your milk to come in. Are you leaking a creamy substance at all? That would be colostrum which is very important for your baby. Do not pump yet. Let your baby bring on the milk. Do not pump for like a week. If you need help, contact the breastfeeding hotline. That number is 1-###-###-####

I agree with all the other responses. I just had my third. First two, milk came in about day four, third, it was day two! Everyone is different. One thing I'd add, and it's important...keep doing everything everyone else has said, and if your milk doesn't come in in a couple of days, or if you have NO liquid at all coming out, call your ob. If any of your placenta was left, it can prevent milk from coming...AND can be very dangerous for you. Keep an eye on it, and don't give up. That's what we're made to do, so hang in there.

You aready have gotten some great advice! Your milk can come in anywhere from day 3 to 7. Sometimes it just takes a bit of time. Hang in there and I also second that you baby does not need formula at this time either (unless there is a medical need). Your body is making colosterum and your babies stomach is only the size of a small marble at birth!
Blessings, K.

My milk didn't come in until my boys were 5 days old, and both were JUST FINE on colostrum alone. nurse your baby, NO BOTTLES! Nurse your baby when she's hungry, anytime she roots or cries or wakes, put her to the breast. This will keep your body stimulated to produce milk.

Colostrum is extremely important, as babies are born with an open gut. THe colostrum coats the tummy so that when the milk comes in, it will stay in the tummy and not leak into the body like what happens with a formula fed baby who has no colostrum.

Milk typically comes in between days 3 and 7, so don't stress because that will stress your body and make the process go slower. Relax, nurse your baby when she roots, cries, or wakes, and your milk will come in. NO BOTTLES, NO PUMPING, NO SUPPLEMENTING! Your body needs your baby to nurse in order to make milk. She is just fine on colostrum, its coating her tummy and doing what it should. Its thick and is perfect for her.

You are doing great! Relax. :)

Keep doing what you are doing and your milk should come in by tomorrow. When you say not even a drop, no collostrum? No liquid PERIOD? Hm. Send me a private message if you like. I breastfed my daughter for 13 mos. Hope things work out for you!

Day 4 is when my milk came in. I did put ice packs on my breasts. Give it time, relax, drink lots of water. If you are on day three that is good. By day three almost all of the collustrum is gone and feels like your baby is drinking nothing, just sucking, but give it time. :) You may get conflicting advice but I did breast feed and then gave baby some formula because she was hungry and my milk didn't come in yet. But I only gave her a little and only after I breastfed. You have to breastfeed every three hours to get the milk to come. It just doesn't come naturally. That is why at the hospital the nurses will bring your baby to you or make sure you BF every three hours.
