I got my period back when my daughter was 10 months old...and it continued to come once a month, after 28 days, then 34 days, then 31 days, and now here I am 38 days and no period? I took 3 pregnancy tests and all came back negative, I took them spread out over days, not all in one day. :) I have heard sometimes when you breastfeed your period can still be out of wack even though it did come back? Has this happened to anyone else? Or I guess maybe I could be pregnant? We are trying so that would be great. Or it could be a mixed up cycle, thoughts please share?? I'm confused...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi ladies: I took another pregnancy test, with the first morning urine, and still a negative. So I am pretty sure that its just as all of you have assured me...cycle out of wack b/c I am still nursing my 14 month old. So that is okay. :) I'm just glad that I asked and I understand better what is going on with my body. I appreciate everyone's input and advice here. This is the first time I've posted a question and the support was so wonderful! thank you all, N.

***finally today 9/6/07 I got my period, 50 days since last one!! but at least it finally came!! just wanted to update all of you with that news as well. :)

Yes - my period has been crazy too. My daughter is 17 months old and I just got my period back about 4 months ago. The first one was hardly anything and then the next one 28 days later very heavy and then I had some spotting after two weeks and now nothing for 6 weeks! I think that the breastfeeding definately affects it. Fun - isn't it?? Good luck conceiving - I hope you get that positive you are waiting for very soon!

Having a baby puts your body through things you would never imagine and the recouping after can take sometime. If your seriously trying for another child I would suggest you call your OB/GYN Dr. You really need to have your hormone levels checked. Your longer periods or absence of your periods is caused my a hormone imbalance. I know this because I went through the same as well as my sister in law. My sister in law has to take hormone pills now just to get her period, which isn’t good when your trying to have kids. If your daughter is 14 months old and your still having period problems I would definitely have it checked out; Its simple to fix and it’s not worth letting it go. Also if you think there is a possibility of you being pregnant take a pregnancy test first thing in the morning with your first pee. That’s very important!! I had the same problems your going through and it wasn’t coming up on any pregnancy test that I was pregnant, since my hormones were imbalanced. When you use your first mornings urine it has sat in your body and the hormones are stronger. See if that helps. If your not pregnant, please call your Dr. and just let him/her know what’s going on. GOOD LUCK!!!

Hi N..

I am going thru the same exact thing and was going to actual post the question today until i read yours :) My son is 8 1/2 months old and I got my first period on July 4th of all days. I am still waiting on a period and also took a test 2 weeks ago. People keep advising me to take another test which I may do. Please do share anything you find out :)

Thanks.

Yeap, your period will be out of wack for some time. Sometimes I would not have a period for a month or two and then it would come back. It takes a while to regulate back to normal. A.

Hi N.,

My periods were unpredictable until I started taking Vitex (chasteberry) supplements several months ago. I get Vitex at Rollin' Oats. It helps to regulate the female reproductive system. I "think" it is okay while nursing although it may decrease your supply (I'm not a doctor so...). My son was almost three when I started taking them and weaned shortly after. I'd check Kellymom just in case.

I also recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is a great resource on the female reproductive system and can help you succeed in conceiving.

Good luck!

L.
