Breastfeeding Concern

I was breastfeeding my son the other day when he clamped down and bit me. It would not have been so bad but it happened to be the sore side. Fortunately, no teeth yet. So then yesterday, while pumping, I noticed a pink tinge of blood in the let down. (I am not sure if the biting and blood are even correlated) I have no symptoms of mastitis or cracked nipple and have not had a recurrence of the blood in the breast milk. Has this happened to anyone else? Anything else I should do?

they say its ok if there's blood in your milk even if you have infection, so its ok to feed your baby. if it bleeds again i'd check w/doc to make sure no infection that's not related. ouch!

Your son may have caused a sore inside your breast when he clamped down. Keep nursing you'll be ok. If your nipples are sore use lansinoh or consult with a lactation consultant. You can call the ones at the hospital you gave birth in for help even though you gave birth so long ago.

Yes, it has happened to me. My son bit me but with teeth, he had eight in the front at that time. He bit down and pulled his head back while biting.. it was very painful. I was fine that day (sore), and the next day when I was pumping at work, it came out red/pink. I talked to my lactation consultant and she said to keep using it and it was okay to give the baby the milk. I stopped pumping and re adjusted the horns and things went much better after that. I was sore for several days.

K.:

when he bit you there were probably some capillaries that broke/ it is not something to worry about. If you were not pumping you would not have known.
