For those of you that have had experience w/ a reduction, I have some questions...
How long did it take for your insurance to cover the surgery?
- did you have to do the preliminary work for coverage / does the surgical office do it for you?
Were you happy w/ the results?
What was the recovery like?
Also, please add anything that you think would be important for me to know.
Thanks.

What can I do next?

I too would love to have this done. I started the process a few years back. My Dr was taking notes. Things were going well. Then my Dr left the practice and I stopped the process. My new Dr hasn't started anything. I dream about it all the time. I would love to have less pain. Here is a website that I read a story about and I always refer back to it.

I have no advice but I do have my first consultation scheduled for a week from today and am so excited! I asked a similar question a few weeks ago and got some informative advice:

My best friend had this done a few years ago. I don't know about the insurance details, but she's very happy with the results. Recovery was horrible, though. She was very sore and draining for quite a while. It was something like a month before she could drive again. Know that this isn't a minor procedure ... you'll need some serious recovery with it, so make sure you have help lined up.

I don't have any experience with anyone who has had a reduction, I do, however, have a really good bra recommendation for anyone like me who has a lot of chest to deal with. Try the "Oprah" bra, otherwise known as the Enell Sports Bra. I haven't ordered one in a while, but they are fantastic at reducing the appearance of how big you are AND they are made so that the weight of your breasts is evenly distributed across very wide straps and behind your shoulders. They run about $60 but they are worth every penny.

my cousin had it done and loved/loves it....she said shes going again if they change after she has kids...the recovery took her 2 weeks and then she was back to work...her insurance covered everything even doing a process afterward to remove the scar.

I had mine done 17 years ago, so as for the insurance, I am sure that it has changed. The advice to have it declared medically necessary is important. I know that we had to go through 2 different insurance companies. We had one & all the recommendations (they made me see 4 different specialists- all who said it was medically necessary). I had a tiny little build- and wore a FF at 15! Anyway, after every single Dr. I saw said I needed it done, it went before a board of directors & they said no.
My mom changed insurances at open enrollment in the fall & I was approved immediately through the new insurance. The surgery was scheduled in 6 months.
I don't think having a morphine drip has anything to do w/ being in the UK vs. the US has anything to do w/ it. I was hospitalized for 3 days & had a drip the whole time. The recovery is a blur since it was so long ago, but I have to say, I would do it again in a heart beat!
In fact after we are done having children, I have considered having another procedure, since I have gotten bigger in the years after giving birth and nursing.
Good luck! Hope all works out for you.

I first had to have my doctor declare it was medically necessary in order for my insurance to cover it. but I am on Tricare, and I know it sometimes works different with different companies.

As for the results, I am very happy, as is my sister and both of my cousins who have all had it done. I had back trouble, shoulder and neck issues, and headaches, that are all gone now. I would do it again in a hear beat. And the recovery was not bad at all. I had mine done in the UK so I had a morphine drip the first day. My sister had it done here in the US and it was a same day procedure with her home that afternoon. She dealt with a little more pain than me, but said it was the best decisions she has ever made. Just be sure you have someone to help with the kids, you can not lift anything for 2 weeks, you do not want to risk opening your incisions or it can leave large scars. I was back to normal (minus lifting the kids) in a week.
