I have a two and a half year old little girl who is bow legged. They have put her in walking braces and sleeping braces. She doesnt mind wearing her "MAGIC BOOTS" her walking braces. At night she doesnt like to wear her "MAGIC SHOES" We told her that if she wears her night braces that the bone fairy comes and rubs her leg bones to make them strong and straight. It works durring the day but not at night. She fights me and will cry untill I take them off of her. Any ideas on how to make her want to wear them?

What can I do next?

can you let her dress them up somehow? put ribbons on them or maybe even paint them or something? maybe you could make special "socks" that will fit over them? or on another note, how about every night she wears them all night, she gets a penny in the morning to put in a jar and when the jar is full she gets a prize

hi A.
i agree with the other comments try giving her a reward for doing it or try to turn it around like it was her idea. i know when i let my daughter think that it was her idea she will do it and call her a big girl she more into it then me just making her do it. good luck

I agree with the last person. Allow her to dress them up a bit. Also, they may be too uncomfortable to sleep in or maybe even painful. Try giving her tylenol before bed and set up some sort of a reward system. At least to get her in the habit of wearing them.

I have no idea what the braces look like or how hard they are to get on, but could they be put on after she goes to sleep?

I don't know if you use special thick socks for her braces or not but they really help. My son did not like his at first either but then he was older and easier to reason with. He got used to them and wore them fine (day and night) for over a year. I think if you get her some really soft and comfy socks and an anti-inflammatory (like Motrin) it would help. I have a problem with rewarding for something that I consider a necessity. For us, if the DR says we need to do it...we do it. My son would so see a reward as an option to choose not to do something and forgo the reward. Like a choice when wearing the braces was not. If it were me I would give her the Motrin about a half hour before bed (get ready for bed and use the extra long comfy socks- wrap up and OVER braces) and then maybe hold her or read her to sleep (distract)... don't take them off. With some consistency she will adjust and it will get better. At night it's hard since they are sleepy and it's something different. Make it part of your routine. Stay strong Mom!
