Babies progress at their own rate, some are really quick and some take their time. I have a 5-month-old neice who holds her bottle and has for a month or so but I also have a 4-month-old nephew who doesn't even express interest. all children are different. I believe my little girl was around 5 or 6 months before she started holding hers but that seems like forever ago.

Hey Ashley. I have talked to you before, because my daughter is has the same birthday as yours. Anyway, she is trying to hold her bottle and can do it with a little help. If I talk my hand away, she usually can keep it up to her mouth for a good 20 seconds or so. I have a friend who's daughter is 7 months and she holds her bottle completely on her own.

First off, you have my condolences to the loss of your son. I was pregnant with twins too but one passed away early and I misscarried that one. The child I do have is the other twin. I know you will deal with the death forever. I can't imagine going through what you did. I will tell you that my son is 9 months old (almost 10 months)and he will not hold his own bottle. The pediatrician said there is nothing to worry about right now. I guess he is just lazy. He uses his hands and arms perfectly for everything else though. He doesn't show interest in feeding himself or holding his bottle yet. Hang in there! My friend has a baby that is younger than my son and her daughter is holding her bottle with no trouble. I guess it is just different for each baby.

Hi my name is A. and I just wanted to say that I know how you feel about the death of a child. I have lost 2 children. My daughter died when she was 2 months old from sids, she would have been 11 this December. My son died when he was 17 months old from a brain hemmorrage. He died the day before mothers day 2002. He would be 7 this December. I am so sorry on your loss. Just remember that if you live for God you will rock your baby again. I just wanted to say that I love you and you will be in my prayers. My daughter started holding her own bottle around 10 or 11 months old. she was lazy lol. I took her bottle away at 12 months and traded it with a sippy cup. I wish you the best and keep the faith! Love A.

I'm sorry for your loss. I may not understand, but I do know that you're hurting. My family, blood and church, will be keeping you in our prayers.

Every child is different. My son held his bottle before he could sit up. We taught him to hold it by three months.

Hi Ashley. My daughter was born on September 5th. She started to hold her own bottle at about 5 1/2 months. She didn't have any interest in holding it herself unitl we switched to teh 9 oz. bottles. She immediately reached up and started to hold it. Over the last few weeks she has gotten more and more coordinated at it and can pretty much feed herself unless she drops the bottle. She has a hard time picking it back up on her own.

I don't know if I remember correctly, but I THINK about 9 months or so. I think about 8 months I was able to PROP a bottle up on our baby (while she was in a car seat) to where she could use one hand a little bit and have decent control over it. But, of course, the bottle is sure to be dropped (or THROWN) a lot in the beginning....

I started giving my daughter a sippy cup around 6 months old (plus her bottle, just to get her use to a sippy cup). Shortly after starting the sippy cup she started holding her bottle. Not that we would actually make her hold her bottle...LOL...she is a little rotten!!! Good Luck with everything!!

Mine started around 6-7 months, but he also has much larger hands than most babies his age. I think part of it depends on the size and shape of the bottle you are using. I think most of the other kids in his class at daycare were holding their own around 8-9 months.

My little girl didn't hold her own bottle till she was about 7 months old. But all babies are different. I worked in a daycare prior to getting pregnant and babies would start from about four months on.

My son was holding his bottle for the 1st time around 5 months old.
Now he is almost 13 months old and yes, he is still on the bottle. Also he will hold his bottle when he feels like it. When he does hold his bottle he wants to play with after a few minutes. So if you are holding your babys bottle just do it and enjoy because sooner or later she will start to take it away and then you have to try to get her to just drink so she can get full.
Good luck. T.
