One of my best friends daughter is turning one in a few days and I would like to get the little girl a book for her birthday, but not just any book. My friend tried for a very long time to have her baby and so she is extra special (not that other kids aren't special you know what I mean). The only books I can find are written to be read by her mother, do you guys know of a book that would be good that I can write something special in? I just want something sentimental, meaningful and that pertains to her. Help!

What can I do next?

Everywhere Babies
Guess How Much I Love You
Oh The Places You'll Go
Where The Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
On The Night You Were Born

Or -- buy a classic YOU loved as a girl and write a note in it. I had a family friend do this for me when I was young with The Wind In The Willows and I still have that book!

You could buy her a classic every year! (Sorry--book nerd here!)

I love all of SHel Silversteins books. Where the Sidewalk Ends was my cuties favorite. It grew with her. She loved me reading the silly ryhmes to her when she was a toddler. She would refer back to it in later years. Once in Jr High she had to do a little skit. She did one of his poems...."Wrapped myself in toilet paper, thought they'd call me mummy. wrapped myself in toilet paper, they just called me dummy." Now that she is 18 she has her copy on a bookshelf waiting for when she has a baby.

Yes they seem to be read by a parent, but the message is priceless.

'Little One, I Knew You'd Come'. Brings tears to my eyes everytime. And the baby in the illustrations looks just like my middle boy.

"On The Day You Were Born"
It's a beautiful book about the world and every living creature in it awaiting the birth of the baby. My most favorite sentimental children's book ever!
