Anything by Sandra Boynton! We found her when my son was about 2, and now he reads some of the books to me! Another favorite rhyming/ tounge twister is Dr. Seuss' Oh Say Can You Say?
We have been reading 'Seven Silly Eaters' and 'Chewy Louie' and 'Library Lion' and 'The luckiest one of All' for weeks now, but they have to go back to the library. Does anyone have any recommendations of some good stories for a 5 / 6 year old? I love rhyming books, and she loves funny/silly books.
Thanks!

My 5 year old son's absolute favorite is The Scrambled States of America and The Scrambled States Talent Show. We got these from the library on a whim, and he loved them so much that we had to buy them and we read one of these two just about every night. As a bonus, he now knows most of his states!
what can you do with ten black dots
chicca chicca boom boom

We LOVE the Skippyjon Jones Books by Judith Byron Schachner. They are really cute and funny! Our five year old loves to read them!!

Scardy Squirrel
All favorites here!
Silly Sally- Very silly and Rhymes
Jazzy Miz Mozetta- The kids tell the older people they are too old to be dancing with them, so the elders start a crazy dance inside
A Bad Case of Stripes- The little girl worries about what other people think and comes down with "the stripes." Her skin color changes from regular to striped to polka dots, camo, flag, etc. until she chooses to be true to herself. Silly and a great message!
My girl loved Shel SIlverstein. Where The Sidwalk Ends
She even performed one of his poems for a talent show.
it went something like...

Thought They'd call me mummy
Wrapped myself in toilet paper

She would love "Cowboy and Octopus".. very silly.

Skippyjon is hilarious
Bubba The Cowboy Prince.
One of our family favorites is "How the Trollusk Got His Hat" by Mercer Mayer. The pictures are hilarious, lots of detail that makes it interesting for the parents AND the kids. No rhymes though.
I know Amy J. is a big fan of "Rhyming Dust Bunnies" but I haven't been able to find it at my local bookstore.
The Foot Book by Dr. Seuss - it's hilarious! My GD loves Silly Sally.
Peggy Rathman has some great books, Officer Buckle and Gloria, 10 Minutes til Bedtime... The day the babies crawled away (nothing scary, more about a lil baby saving the day)
Ruby the copy cat
Good night Gorilla
I love her work!
My kid thought "The Silly Book" by Stoo Hample was the funniest thing ever.
Goldilocks Has Chicken Pox. Great rhyming and illustrations. I think I can even recite the entire book if you'd like :)
My son LOVES Good Night Gorilla (a little youngish) but HE loves it because there are virtually no words, he can tell the story based on the pictures and HE reads it to ME - worth looking at.
We just started the Skippyjon Jones books, they are a little long winded and a lot of spanish(esque) words some are not really spanish but appear to be so I like the cd with the book so SHE can read it and we can follow along!
