I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I'll give it a shot. I have never been happy with how I look, and now that I have had 2 children, I am even more unhappy. When I was a teenager, I went through a phase of being anorexic, and I now see I was extremely unhealthy, and probably looked disgustingly skinny. I have also been bulimic, which has been happening again a bit. I have lost 50 lbs. since August, through diet and excercise, and I am still not happy. I am also still watching what I eat and all that stuff. My health isn't good (unrelated to this), so I know I need to eat to help my body heal itself, but I can't get over feeling obese. My husband is always telling me that I am not fat, I could stand to gain a few pounds, and all that stuff. I know he means it, and logically I know I am not obese, but I can't stop wanting to lose more weight. It's worrying, because even when I was anorexic as a teeenager, I wasn't happy with my body and I still thought I was fat, so I know I may never be satisfied. How do you deal with this, what can I do to get comfortable with my body? Please help me. Thank you very much!

So What Happened?

Thank you for getting back so fast...I just wanted to add, yes, I have 2 small sons and an almost 8 year old step daughter, and I do not want them to be self concious, so I don't really talk about it exept with my husband, because I do understand how impressionable children can be. I don't want them to worry about me, I don't want them to go through this themselves, and my step daughter is already overweight and I definitely don't want to cause problems with that. I know I need to let them see me eating healthy things, so I'm trying...I just am not comfortable. But yes, the children are the reason that I really want to get better, because I don't want this to negatively affect them.

Have you tried a counselor? Since you have a history with eating disorders it may help. Let someone who is an expert on how to help people with these disorders help you.
My dad always said since you have to eat anyway better make it good. So eat healthy, salads and fruits, a little red meat and lots of chicken or fish.
Also watch what you say about your weight around your children. Boys can be anorexic too and you are the female role model in the house if you have little girls.

If you have suffered with eating disorders in the past it sounds like you are on the path to going back to those ways , it's good that you recognise the signs and you know it is not good for you and your health , and your kids to see you like this. I have no experience in this field but I would suggest a counselor , I'm sure you had one before? Get help now.

I wish you the best

Think it might be time to join an ED group with a therapist. Your children are being affected because its not what you say, its what you're doing and how you're doing it. Its not what you see in the mirror, its what you feel like. Eating disorders need to be managed for your life as your body and you go through different stages of life. Very much hope you get the help you need.

I have a degree in nutrition and dietetics. We were told in college that we are not equipped to deal with people with eating disorders; they need mental health expertise. You are still anorexic. I believe that it is a lifelong issue, but with proper help, you can keep it in check and learn to be happy.

Also, I would highly recommend finding a Naturopathic Physician (ND). I had never heard of them until a couple of years ago. I got tired of never getting real help from MDs with my issues. I found an ND who changed my life, and helped me get pregnant, all without drugs. Bona fide NDs go to college, then go to four years of naturopathic medical school. They cure the body so that it can heal itself, instead of treating symptoms. I've been amazed at all that they know - that MDs just aren't trained in (MDs are trained in drugs and surgery - there's so much more out there than that). My insurance didn't cover my ND, but they are way cheaper than MDs anyway, and it was well worth all the help I got. My first appointment with her was for 90 minutes - face to face time. Because of the distance I had to travel, I started having phone visits with her after a few times driving to her office.

You might just do a little research. For instance I googled "naturopath anorexia" and it brought up a wealth of practitioners, you tube videos, and information. http://naturopathic.org/ will let you do a search. They are "primary care physicians", and some specialize in womens issues or other things. I don't know what other issues you are having, but an ND could most likely help you with that. You'd be surprised that it may well be related to your anorexia. Best of luck to you! You and your hubby and family deserve to be happy.
