If you mean to detox, do so naturally, and with the intent of detoxing, not with the aim of rapid weight loss. Cut out caffiene, alcohol, sugar, processed foods. Eat whole grains, and drink plenty of water. Eat or drink at least 6x a day, and keep it up for at least 3 weeks.

It will help to reset your body and your attitude towards food. Be prepared for some serious headaches/ sluggishness at the start, and for a real surge of energy by the end.

Don't fall into the trap of breaking your detox with a pepperoni pizza and wings, and cheesecake you will feel doubly miserable. Instead aim for a slow reintroduction of the "toxic" foods. hopefully, establishing a new, normal which will be a healthier middle ground.

Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.

I prefer a colon cleanse, myself.
This is on top of eating clean and working out, of course.

I use OxyCleanse. Very gentle, and a 7 day cleanse will make you feel a lot better...not to mention clean you out.
I'm on day 5 of a cleanse right now. I do it every 3 mos or so.

I took chlorella for a year! It's an herb that detoxes heavy metals. it was gentle and easy..... but I stuck with it for a year.

I also have done body brushing. Cleans lymphatic system.

Ionic Footbaths. Pulls toxins out through feet.

I don't like to take things that will tear up my stomach. I have found these are more gentle for me.

Under the guidance of my naturopathic doctor, I did the drnatura.com total body detox cleanse. I actually did it a couple times. I liked it, it was easy to follow, and I didn't think it was too expensive for what it was. They use all natural herbal and plant ingredients. The cleanse cleanses everything, but mainly targets the liver, colon, and kidneys. Whenever I feel like it's time for another cleanse, that's the first one I think of. This isn't a quick cleanse either but rather one that lasts a few months.

I also do dry body brushing, which is fantastic for getting the lymph node system moving and cleansed. If you happen to suffer from little/tiny red dots on your legs--you most likely have a lot of stagnant lymph nodes. I used to have that until I did the dry brushing. Now whenever I notice I have some small red dots on my legs, I get the brush out and brush for a few days. They always disappear!

Green tea and Rooibus tea are excellent for detoxing the body. Parsley, chlorella, spirunela, cilantro, celery are also excellent. Flax seed and chia seed also do a good job of cleansing. But really, the best way to detox is to completely and totally change the way you eat, what you eat. Eat organic, whole food, locally grown, pasture-raised. Get rid of processed, preserved, fast food, junk food, chemicals/pesticides/preservatives, MGS/aspartame, artificial sweeteners, sugar, white flour. Get a good quality source of drinking water.

The best way to do a fast or a cleanse or a detox and make it so that it lasts/is an ongoing thing is to change the way you eat and what you put into your body. You might also think of getting yourself checked by a naturopath to see if your body has any food allergies or food intolerances. And taking good quality, high potency vitamins, minerals,, supplements is also a healthy choice; Whole Foods and vitacost.com carry very good brands. I would not buy anything from a supermarket or Walgreens or Target or any of those places, as the supplements they carry are subsidized by the pharmaceutical companies; I don't trust what's in them.

I've seen too many people have major problems with these because they are either difficult to do properly, they cause a lot of fatigue, or they are too rapid and provide too much stress on the body. I prefer on-going detox as part of an overall nutrition program. There are some terrific products out there that let you do this as a part of daily body care without the shock of a sudden change in diet. The ongoing programs also LAST over time. You have daily and ongoing assaults on your body from substandard food, environmental toxins, pollutants, stress and other things. So it doesn't make a lot of sense to do a massive 2 or 3 day cleanse (or 4 or 7 days, whatever it is), and then go back to your old ways. It just puts the body through too much shock. Most responsible food scientists advise against that.
