Bloody Teardrops in a Newborn

it's his eyes, they can't be replaced. Go to the doctor, better to be told it's nothing than to ignore a problem.

Go see a doctor. This can be cause by a number of things including infections and a bunch of scarry stuff that I'm not going to mention here.

very strange but i have seen something like this about a girl that lives in India. I would ask the doctor what is going on. I would be interested to know what they say.

Not to scare you,I highly recommend you take your newborn to the doctors. Blocked teardrops may cause an infection in the long run if you don't take care of sooner. My daughter had blocked teardrops as an infant with green discharged, eyes puff/swallen and the doctor had told us is not a problem and will grow out of it. Her doctor didn't want to even exam her as I dicusss this over the phone my concern. As a first time mom, I was scared and contacted them ASAP for an exam by then she had caught an infection and was immediately admitted to the hospital. Thankfully she was treated for an overnight stay with IV antibotic. I hope this helps you

I urge you to contact your child's doctor ASAP. I have no expertise with blocked tear ducts, but blood coming out of the eye seems like an issue to be discussed and looked over by a medical doctor.

My son was born with one side blocked and we had to go to LA to see a specialist. He had to go in and unblock it...it was horrible to watch but my sons eye was numb and he felt no pain. He really didn't even cry that much.(I think I cried more Ha Ha)If you leave it untreated they will have a large bump for the rest of their life. You can go on the internet and see some pictures of untreated cases. Once it was unclogged then their was some light light red tears, but they didn't last long. So to answer your question...YES go get your baby checked out. It may be an easy fix, and at least you will have the piece of mind from your doctor that your baby will be ok. I hope that this helps. It's likely nothing big to worry about, but definitely something I would call and ask the Dr. about.

Probably worth a call to the nurse helpline. If it was just the one teardrop, then maybe it was similar to a scab breaking loose or something like that - maybe nothing to worry about. But if it has continued, then I would think the pediatrician should take a look. If the baby isn't actively wailing in pain, then it's probably nothing to get too concerned about tonight.

Have it checked. Could just be an eye infection. if you are currently breastfeeding, squirt or drop some breastmilk in their eye. It can help with infections and optomologists actually recommend this also. Just have it checked. Eye infections can be painful and you want to resolve it quickly.

If you dr. did not tell you about blood coming from tearducts, then I would call and talk to nurse to see if you need to come in. A phone call never hurts...and pedi's have nurses that handle phone calls from mommas..so go and call. :-)

Yes, I do think you should definitely see a doctor. Blocked tear ducts are very common and treatable in newborns, but perhaps the tear duct has become infected. Good luck.
