Blistered Burn

I was cooking dinner 2 nights ago and as I was stirring some flour into hot butter and onions, some of the roux flipped right out of the pan and onto my bare foot! Luckily my husband was in the kitchen with me and helped me get my foot under the cold running water in the sink. It hurt majorly that night and the yesterday I had a small blister in the center of the burn when I woke up. Overall, I have 4 burns; 2 the size of pencil erasers, 1 the size of a quarter, and 1 about 2 inches in diameter (with the blister which is about an inch around). Today, the blister has become larger (possibly just puffier) and I am wondering about keeping it covered. Should I cover the blister with gauze in case it bursts, or leave it as is? I have been wearing sandals with straps that avoid the burned area, and my pain is gone (only slightly sensitive).

What can I do next?

You need some Silvadene. It's a prescription burn medication that looks a lot like Noxema. It is what they use on burn patients. It will help your skin heal with no scars. It's a miracle for burns.

There are other burn treatments but a doc is your best bet. He can give you something to help it heal quicker and with less long lasting reminders.

Leave the blister uncovered. Apply antibiotic ointment and leave it to heal. Cover it only if the blister breaks open. Good luck and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I reached into the over the other day and burned my finger in a similar way. It was raised after the first day. I've gone back and forth on keeping it covered (it partially broke). I have some blister bandages, but if your foot has a larger burn, I'm not sure they make that type of bandage very big. You can look in the first aid aisle. Since it is the foot, I would consider covering it gently if you need to wear other shoes and definitely do so if it starts to ooze. I have an aloe plant and have been putting aloe on my burn, too. If you have any concerns or fears of infection, call the doctor.

You can always call your doc. Do leave it uncovered. I did find something called BurnJelPlus at Walmart that I like. It stopped the pain (lidocaine) from a bad curling iron incident.

I burned myself at a church breakfast when I picked up a roaster with no hotpads and the boiling water went on my hand. It blistered immediately and got puffy and gross. Keep it clean and covered with aloe and gauze. The blister will pop eventually and then its super important to keep it clean and dry. good luck and happy healing!
