Bleeding/period After Sex?

It feels like every time my husband and I have sex, my period starts immediately. I have the Mirena and I have a close friend who has the Implanon and has the same issues. Needless to say it is quite annoying as my "periods" on the Mirena consists of two weeks of light spotting!!

Anyone else out there have the same issue?

What can I do next?

It took 4-6 months for the spotting to stop after the my Mirena was inserted. If you are past that amount of time, you should call your doctor for a check-up. I am on my 2nd Mirena and have not had a period or spotting after the first 6 months. I was 35 then - I am now 42.

I hear ya, the same exact thing happens to me! I enjoy having light periods but they do last long and are very unpredictable...normally my PMS symptoms are exactly the same as before...headaches, cramping, bloating and irritablilty but when I think I might be starting and I have sex with my husband, the next day my period starts and about 2 weeks all that light spotting will slowly disappear...strange, huh?? I am going to have a yearly and I am going to ask that same question, but I actually have asked several other women with all the same experiences as us...I hope this give you some peace of mind, and if not talk to your doctor or check up on the website!!!Good Luck!!!

Could it just be coincidental? How long have you had the Mirena? It does take time for your body to adjust to the hormones in it.

I had the Mirena put in on 6/3/10 about 8 weeks after I had my son. I was told there could be spotting for up to 12 weeks. I spotted continuely for about a month, but yes everytime my husband and I have sex I spot for about a day maybe two. I'm hoping this goes away soon, like when the 12 weeks is up. Now the spotting has never been like a flow of a period and I have not had a period since I'm breastfeeding. I've heard stories of women not ever getting their period when the Mirena is inserted after 6-12 weeks after delivery and who breastfeed. I'm hoping I'm one of those lucky ones.

How long have you had the IUD? When I first got mine I would bleed after intercourse and be spotty a day or so. That stopped a few months later though. I have had mine now for almost 4 years. I still spot periodically, but it's completely unpredictable. I don't have an all out cycle like I do w/o being on anything. I used to hemorage so I am fine with the light, sporadic spotting. I think it's just a judgement call on how you feel most comfortable. I plan on getting another one because it is by far the easiest form of bc I have used.
