Ok, so long story made as short as possible. I will be 11 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Last Thursday, I woke up and had bright red blood on my towel after the shower. Because it was so early in the morning, I went to the emergency room. The doctor told me that it was a threatened miscarriage and that some bleeding was normal after your first pregnancy. He did an ultra sound and everything looked good. I called the doctors office to set up a follow up appointment and was scheduled for Friday 13th.
My doctor went on maternity a month earlier than expected so I could understand waiting. Besides, everything was good on Thursday, so why go back the next day? The next couple of days, I had some very light pink just when I wiped. But yesterday I started having dark brown discharge and a lot of cramping and my lower back was killing me. Today I called my doctors office to see if I could get in sooner to see what was going on. After waiting five hours I ended up calling them back. Finally I talked to a nurse who told me the soonest they would be able to see me was Wednesday. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I can't go on Wednesday. My sister in law is having her baby tomorrow and I'm taking care of her son until Friday morning. I also don't want to walk around wondering if I'm still pregnant or not. What are my options? The emergency room visit is $100, and I already paid that once. Should I go there again instead of waiting? Any advice would be appreciated.
First I want to thank everyone that responded. I have also made the decision to switch doctors about two weeks ago. My husband's insurance kicks in next month and is a lot better than mine. I was already planning on switching. So I finally go to the doctor's and everything is fine. I have Bacterial Vaginosis that was causing the bleeding. The doc wrote a prescription and I got to see the baby and hear the heart beat! Big sigh of relief. Thanks again!
Seriously, get a new doctor! That is absolutely ridiculous they won't see you sooner than that in the situation you are in. If I were you, I would call another office and try to get in with them.
Hi S., Any time you have cramping and bleeding during a pregnancy there is always alarms. I don't understand why your doctor didn't at least have you go to the lab and have a quant level done. These levels will go down if you are miscarrying.
I would try my hardest to get that appointment on Wensday.
If your cramping gets worst go back to the ER.
I'm so sorry that you are going through this. I wish there was something I could say to help you, but I have never been there myself. My advice to you would be, get another OB. My OB's office would have had me in there immediately. I have called for reasons not anywhere near as urgent as yours and they have worked me in to see the nurse practitioner just to be sure. Again I am really sorry that all of this is going on and that it is such a bad time for you. But I would call again and tell them if they can't work you in you will find another OB. I wouldn't wait. I'd get seen ASAP. If your doctor can't see you and there's not another doctor in that practice that you can see or not another practice that you can go to, I'd get back to the emergency room.

My first piece of advice would be to get another OB. This is a time in your pregnancy where you need to have someone look at you and not wait days. Regarding the bleeding... I had a lot during my first pregnancy and spotted through out. It turns out my daughter was supposed to be a twin, but the twin never formed - i had 2 placentas and one baby. My second pregnancy, I had some brown spotting and ended up having a healthy baby boy. if you already had an ultrasound and saw a heartbeat, i have read that you have a very high percentage of having a healthy baby. The part that worries me is the cramping - that is not normal. you should go see someone right away and REST until then. I know it is hard with a 2 year old, but I bet that if everything is ok, that is what they will tell you to do. Hope that helps and hope it all works out for you.

Please find a new OB. You need to be in an environment where even if your OB were unavailable to see you ASAP, there'd be other OB's in the office ready to fit you in. You need an OB who won't put you off, even if all you need is reassurance and peace of mind. My OB had me come in during the office lunch hour once when I was worried about some cramping. It turned out to be nothing, but I can't say enough about the reassurance I felt because my doctor cared more about me than he did about scheduling issues or even eating lunch!

You are right to be concerned. Any bleeding is scary. If your OB can't see you and you don't want to go to the ER; you could make an appointment at a critical care clinic. I'm not sure where you are located, but I'm sure there's one near you. ARC has one located on Far West that is open after hours and weekends as well. If you walk in without an appointment it's usually $50 but with an appointment usually you just pay your normal copay. Good Luck, I hope you get to see a DR.

I can't even begin to imagine how scary this is! I had high risk pregnancies and during my 2nd pregnancy I had just moved and the OB I had was 45 minutes away. I became so sick, I couldn't get there one day and I called another highly recommended OB 5 minutes away explained my problem and they saw me within 2 hours and took me on as a patient despite being so full. You may want to try another OB that is more available. Lots of strength to you!
I don't know if you have already done something but I would go to the Drs office and walk in the door and tell them you need to talk to a Dr. You shouldn't have to go to an emergecy room if they are in the office. You need to speak to a Dr. not the nurse.
Bring a book and toys and hunker down till someone can see you.

Plus, get a new DR and write a letter to the practice and tell them why you are leaving. It doesn't matter if your DR. went on leave. They are there to cover for each other.
I can understand your anxiety. This is a difficult time for you, just the not knowing! I have had 3 healthy wonderful pregnancys and 3 healthy wonderful children and 3 miscarraiges. I have 3 or 4 close friends that had bleeding in their first trimester and had perfectly healthy preg. and children. I would just encourage you to trust your gut feelings and if you can afford the visit to the ER and it will give you peace of mind then I say go. I hope this helps. I prayed for you too.
