First Trimester Bleeding

Hello, I am 5 wks pregnant and had some cramping and bleeding the other day. Went to doc's and sono showed sac appropriate to size for my week of pregnancy. Also drew progesterone level which was normal too. She wants to get another sono in a week. Every thing was looking good until I started bleeding again yesterday, more than the other day. My doc still says to wait and see on the next sono. I'm worried. I don't have much hope for this pregnancy. I am not bleeding yet today, but won't be shocked if I do. Has any one experienced bleeding and still went on to have a healthy pregnancy? Or did it turn into a miscarriage and if so, is this how it started?

What can I do next?

I think this is fairly common, though scary. I had early bleeding with both of my pregnancies and went on to have healthy babies. If things are progressing well on the sonogram you can take a lot of reassurance from that. With my first baby, I bled around 8 weeks and then had a normal sonogram, and they told me that if you have a normal scan at that stage then your chances of your pregnancy going to full term are 98% which is pretty good odds!
I hope it all works out for you.

Hello, T.. I can identify with your current issue. I am going through the same at the moment. In the past few days I have made 2 ER trips and scheduled to see my OB, today. I'm currently 31/2 months pregnant. and I am scared out of my mind. I have two other children, who are girls. And I haven't experienced anything like this before with either pregnancy. I have light spotting and cramping, which sorta feel like Braxton Hicks..Both trips to the ER have yielded no information about my condition except for "threatened abortion" So like you I am searching for an answer. Hopefully, my OB will have a better answer for me, today. I just wanted to let you know what you are not alone. I wish you all the best. Good luck!

I had bleeding in my second trimester, which was so terrifying. The nurse at the ER told me that 50% of pregnant women who have bleeding go on to have a healthy pregnancy. Later I found out that she was "sort of" right. My OB told me that 50% of women who have bleeding in their first trimester will go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

I'm sorry you're having to wait and see. It must be so beyond difficult for you. But there are a ton of success stories- my son was one!

Good luck!

I had bleeding in my last 3 pregnancies. I had low progesterone with them all, but with my son I also had a hematoma behind the placenta. It reabsorbed with bedrest and he was born healthy and safe. Good luck!

I began cramping and bleeding when I was 3 weeks pregnant and it continued well into my 12th week. The doctors did sonos and checked levels on a regular basis and I gave birth to a healthy boy on 1/14/2009. Try to stay calm and follow your doctors advice.
