Bleeding During Pregnancy - Castle Rock,CO

I unfortunately had this experience 4 times. I had an abrupted placentae. This is very serious. Mom and baby could lose their lives. I started bleeding at around 8 weeks usually. The first time this happened, I was a young mother of one daughter. This was my second pregnancy, I was hospitalized at 15 weeks and stayed there off and on for the next 11 weeks. He was born at 26 weeks. Back in 1983, they didn't have the technology they have today, and he passed away after living 9 hours. This happened 3 more pregnancies. All with boys. both of my girls were full term. My opinion is, there is probably a hormonal imbalance. I believe I was estrogen dominant. Most milk, meat, and cheese is from cows that have been shot with hormones. Estrogen is in many things, Unfortunatly, our bodies can't handle it. It thinks the baby growing inside us is foreign and tries to flush it out. If I were you, I would have her get her hormone levels checked. It can't hurt anything, but it could save their lives

I had this too! It was so scary! I had my very first visit to the ER at about 13 weeks because of the bleeding. They never did find a cause, and it eventually stopped after a month, but man, was it scary.... clots & heavy bleeding like a period that just wouldn't stop.

There can be so many causes: placenta previa, clots in the uterine lining, tears, etc. I'd recommend finding a new OBGYN. If for nothing else, maybe a new one will give her more stringent limitations (I was not allowed to lift anything at all, had to take it easy, had to see the doctor every week) and have her come in for frequent ultrasounds and exams to make sure everything's okay and just for her peace of mind.

As for me, after the 2nd trimester bleeding stopped, I then started having low amniotic fluid and other issues, almost had to have an emergency c-section, and STILL went on to have a very healthy little boy. He's 15 months old now. I hope everything turns out okay for her!

I did during both of my pregnancies. With my son it did get quite heavy and it was very scary. I too had clots. My doc had me come in for frequent sonograms. They could not determine the cause, but could see blood pooling in my uterus. With my son it lasted until past 14 weeks. With my daughter the bleeding tapered off around 10 weeks. The only thing I was told to do was to be on pelvic rest (which meant no sex). I was also told not to lift anything over twenty pounds. My doctor was quite honest both times. He told me that if a miscarriage was imminent at that point there was nothing that could be done to prevent it. No amount of bedrest could stop anything. It was hard to hear, but it was the truth. I took it easy when I could. MY doc had me come in for sonos every week or two...although I think that was more for my piece of mind than anything really medically necessary. There is not much that will ease her mind. I can tell you that in both my cases I had two healthy babies. If she is uncomfortable with her OB, it's probably better to find a new one. I wish her well.

Get a new dr-and put yourself to bed!

Some bleeding may be normal...but clots.... not usual! Find a new doctor today!

Does she have placenta previa? She might even have a blood clot in the uterus that's causing her to bleed. I've had them with four pregnancies, however I nevef bled but it said it was possible. And because they're so common dr.,s usually don't mention them. But in any case, if she's in her second trimester she can go to labor and delivery at the hospital and get checked out. And while she's there ask for a referral of doctors.

Your friend needs to get a new dr. ASAP! I had bleeding with my second when I was 11 weeks along and ended up miscarrying. My third pregnancy I had a subchorionic hematoma and was put on modified bed rest (no lifting my then 2.5 year old, no sex, no strenuous activity). The bleeding was heavy and there were clots (very alarming for someone who had miscarried just months before) but it did heal on its own and now I have a beautiful 21 month old boy. I think your friend needs to demand an ultrasound to rule out anything more serious and her dr. should not be merely guessing at the cause of bleeding!!!
