Bleeding at 8 Weeks Pregnant?

I am 8 weeks pregnant today... I haven't had even a spot of blood during the pregnancy until now. I was napping and woke up, walked about 10 steps, looked down and saw my pants had blood on them. I went to the bathroom and saw a pretty good amount of blood on my underwear.

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this? I know the blood has slowed down just not sure if it has stopped.

I will be calling my doc first thing in the morning to see if I can come by tomorrow.

Does anyone know if this is at all normal?? I'm worried.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone for your responses! It is so great to know that I wasn't alone.

I waited until the morning to call the doc. They got me in right away. Did an exam and all they saw was "old blood" which was a good sign. He said that I ruptured a blood vessel because of all the extra blood flow in my body right now. We did an ultrasound and the baby was perfectly fine, moving around on ultrasound, and the heart beat was nice and strong.

I feel so much better!! But it sure was scary! Geez.

Thanks again everyone!

I had that happen too with my first pregnancy at around 6-8 weeks. I was scared to death. My bleeding and then spotting lasted 3-4 days. Honestly, if I had not had a positive pregnancy test, I would have thought it was a period. I had an early ultrasound performed and the baby was still fine. He was delivered full-term and well over 8 lbs. Healthy and smart as can be .. no health issues.

I started bleeding right at about 8 weeks also. If you fill up a pad in an hour then don't wait until tomorrow and go to the doc tonight! But if you have what I had it shouldn't be too much after the initial gush. K so I had placenta previa. It is when the placenta detaches some from the uteran wall. I was bleeding, went to the doc, they did an ultra sound to see what was going on and that is what they found. The baby was fine but the only was to fix it is bed rest until it heals. So that was the hardest part. I had to be on bed rest for about 3 weeks. I was told I couldn't go off it until I stopped bleeding for 48 hours. Once that happened I was considered a high risk pregnancy for the rest of the time I was pregnant and I had a weight restriction of lifting no more than 25 pounds. I was also not aloud to exercise for the whole pregnancy. But my baby grew fine. and my placenta moved back up to the right place. She is 3 now and I also have a 1 year old. So if this is what you have there is a very good chance everything will be fine just make sure you got get looked at.

Dear Laura,
Definitely call your doctor. Don't wait to go if it gets any worse tonight.
I bled with both of my children and they are fine.
I saw a doctor on TV the other night and she said that 20% of pregnant women continue to bleed during their pregnancies which is why some woman can be pregnant for so long without realizing it. They think they are having their periods.

Just rest, get your feet up and if you are running a temp or having severe cramping, get to the doctor right away.
I spent an entire day in the ER due to bleeding pretty badly, with I.V.'s everything.....
I had a healthy 7 pound 4 ounce son.

If it gets worse, don't hesitate to go to the doc.

Best wishes!

If you bleed more than a pad (not pantyliner) in an hour you need to go to the ER. You can have bleeding in early pregnancy for many reasons, some serious and others completely benign. Just watch the bleeding like I said. I've been thru the same thing and went on to have a healthy baby but needed monitoring for a short time every 2 weeks.

I had bleeding with my first son. It was christmas evening and I was at my in-laws having dinner. I bent over to pick up something and I felt this strange sensation as if I pulled something. After a while i realized that my underwear was wet. I went to the bathroom and saw blood and I remember panicking and wondering why was this happening to me on christmas day.
We left my inlaws and went to the ER and they did an ultrasound saw the baby's heartbeat. I think I was about 10 weeks at the time. Then they told me to go and see my regular dr. The next day I went to see my regular dr and they did another ultrasound-the ultrasound tech told me right away that it was an implantation bleed. Meaning that the baby was implanting or attaching to the uterus which caused a bled. I wondered why they could not tell me this at the ER.
I was told to take time off from work but it was something that I just could not do. They wanted me to take 3 weeks off. I continued to work and went on to bled for about 2 weeks. My son is now 5 years old. So, bleeding does not always mean that something bad is going to happen.

I wish you the best of luck and congrats to you!
