Bleeding After Menopause

I made a dr. appointment for next week, but in the meantime, some reassurance would be nice.

Any experience with bleeding after menopause? I've heard of people having periods after going through menopause, but I haven't had one for at least two years, and yesterday and today there is a little bit of blood when I wipe.

Hmmm.... I will tell you what my gyn told me. When this happens, you should have a uterine biopsy. If something shows up, hopefully it is "disordered cells". You go from there.

I've had one of these biopses. It's not bad - an easy procedure. Don't have sex for a couple of days before or after (my advice). I didn't end up having an issue and hope you won't either. Thinking of you and hoping all works out fine!

I went through menopause and didn't bleed for several years. I started bleeding again and bled heavily for months. Several times actually. I went to the ER one time because every time I stood up I made a puddle of blood and clots.

They called in the OB/GYN and we visited a few minutes about doing a hysterectomy...he decided I didn't really need it but if I wanted one we could do it in a few weeks.

It stopped after a few years and I've been without bleeding for a couple of years.

Don't just let it pass if you have heavy bleeding though. Having a doc check for any issues is always a good thing.

If you are taking melatonin, it can 'bring back' periods. It is a very powerful hormone. Just something to consider.

My mom is experiencing this right now. She said that one of her SILs experienced this and the doctor said it happens sometimes but my mom's dr said that when menopause first starts, it does sometimes happen but not after a few years.

That said, there can be many reasons so you definately want to got to your doctor.

It can be something serious but it can also be something rather routine (like a cyst on your ovary...can cause bleeding if it ruptures but is basically harmless).

You did the right thing making an appointment with your doctor. I had a very small amount of bleeding last year after menopause. I saw my GYN who said that any amount of bleeding after menopause is taken very seriously as it can be a sign of uterine cancer and I'd need a uterine biopsy to rule out any issue.
I feel fortunate that the biopsy was normal, but it was really scary until I found out. Please be sure to keep your doctor appointment and let us know what you find out.
I'll be praying for you.

It usually is normal, but if the bleeding persists then go see your doctor. They may want to do a biopsy procedure that I've had done twice in the past two years for the same issue and turned out fine.

Don't worry you are fine I'm sure.
