I went in to see my doc and he did the pap test thing, now I am bleeding. I am 8 weeks pregnant. Is it normal to bleed after this test? When will it stop? My husband said not to worry about it, but how can I not worry about it, your not supposed to bleed when you are pregnant. Any info on this would be great.

What can I do next?

It is normal for there to be some spotting after having a pap done. But no more then spotting if you are bleeding heavy and for more than one day you should go to the doctor.

Hi S.,

I know you are probably stressed, but read the post from the midwife--she is the only one certified to know exactly what she is talking about. Please don't get stressed about what some of these other people are saying--I am wondering why some of the would even type the stuff they are typing. Good luck!

Its normal to have a little bit of blood. There is more blood there now since your pg and its more able to bleed because its sensitive. My doc told me its normal. I guess as long as its not a lot.

it is normal to bleed after a pap test however it is normally just spotting. If you have been bleeding for more than even a few hours I would call the doctors office and tell the nurse and see what she says. It doesnt always mean something bad but it is always better to be safe than sorry. Good Luck and congrats!!!

i would definitely call your doctor immediately. if you have a quarter size or less, it's probably nothing, but if you are having to use a pad you may be miscarrying. take a deep breath, stress isn't going to change anything and, if it is bad, can only make the situation worse, but call your ob-gyn, tell them everything, then follow his/her instructions. you really shouldn't bleed when your pregnant, but sometimes it happens.

I bled after every exam. I called the 1st couple of times and then stopped because every time they said it was ok and normal to bleed a bit. I would call the 1st couple of times if that would make you feel more secure.

Its normal to to have spoting or might have some cramping after your pap test. After my pap test I too was bleeding and had some cramping the same day of the test. It might last for a couple of days (bleeding). I was bleeding (spoting) til my 3rd or 4th mos. and the baby was still looking good. If its a Heavy bleeding you would need to call your OGYN.

Congradulations on your up coming babes! If the blood is just very light or just a lil maybe he scratched you by mistake. However if it is medium to heavy would make another appt for whatever was soonest, if you started bleeding heavily rush to the ER.
Good Luck and God Bless

oh yeah, totally normal after a pelvic exam to bleed. I had that happen & was worried b/c I was high risk. I called the doc & she said it was normal. It should only be a small amount and last for about 24 hrs after the exam though. Although, it is a good idea to check with the OB any time you have anything happen that you are questioning. It may seem silly, or that you are bothering them, but that's what they are there for & what you pay them for. They expect their expecting moms to call them with questions. It's completely okay, and if you have a dr's office that doesn't think it's okay, then it's time to find a new OB.

When you say bleeding do you mean spotting or heavy bleeding? It is normal to spot quiet a bit after a pap during pregnancy, i did everytime with both of my girls. IF its a heavy flow you should go to the doc though.

I can think of at least one reason your doctor should know about this: a possible blood incompatibility with baby. I had this, and an early rhogam shot is the way to deal with it. Definitely call your doctor! And your husband sounds totally nuts....

With my 2nd pregnancy I bled (spotting) for 22 days in my 1st trimester and was totally stressed about it! My OB/GYN told me if it is not bright red or gushing don't worry about it. Sometimes it is just your body's way of cleaning itself. It still freaked me out but she said it is more common than you would think. You can always call your doc if you are worried, they are used to frantic pregnant women, after all you are carrying a little life in there :> Best of luck and congrats!

From what I understand it is normal to have spotting after a pap test. If you are having a considerable amount of blood and cramping I would call your doctor just to check. I have had bleeding with 2 out of 3 pregnacies and I have 3 wonderful kids to show for it.

Good luck!!!

call your doctor. your doctor needs to know how much, how often, what color....so on and so on. bleading would scare me too (i'm 24 weeks pregnant) so don't think you're thinking into it too much. just call your doc cause he's the only one who can tell you for sure what's right and what's cause to worry.

That is absolutly 100% not true. I had my period on schedule through out my pregnancy. They it was more common then anyone thinks. But if you are that concerned which I was the first couple of times( I ewnded the E.R thinking I was miscarrying)then I would call the Doctors office and get another appt asap. Good luck and I hope all is well.

Totally normal. I bleed after paps and cervical checks. As long as you don't go thru a pad an hour, you're fine. If there are gushes or clots, definitely go to the hospital or call your doc.

Yes, it is normal to spot a little. It happened to me, when I was pregnant with my first daughter; because the doctor was rough. I spotted for just a few days, afterward. If you start bleeding heavier; or it doesn't stop after about 5 days; you should go get checked.

Your husband is right, don't worry. Bleeding after those exams while pregnant is normal. Unless of course it looks like you are having a regular period or worse, everything should be well.

I'm surprised your doctor didn't let you know that could happen. Having 4 doctors between 5 children, I was warned of it from each doctor when a pelvic or a full papsmear was done.

You can sometimes get some bleeding after an exam. But, you are around the gestational time for miscarriage too. If the bleeding isn't heavy, there are no big clots and you are not having any cramping, don't worry about it. If it lasts for more than 3 days or so, go back to your doctor. Unfortunately, if you are miscarrying, there is nothing that can be done at this stage. Have you ever been pregnant before? Have you ever miscarried before or had an abortion? These are all things to be considered. Also, it is a common occurrence to have some bleeding in the beginning stages of pregnancy--it is usually from implantation of the baby to the uterus. Anyway, hope everything turns out okay.

Good luck!
