In my opinion, being pregnant, you have an excuse for wearing whatever you have that fits and is comfortable!
My husband and I have been invited to wedding next month in the city. The invitation says "Black Tie Optional." Will I look out of place if I am wearing a dress that is not floor length? What is the protocol here?

I went to a wedding recently that was black tie (optional) and most of the ladies were in some kind of simple black dress glammed up with jewelry and heels. There were a few (mostly family) in floor length dresses but the majority were not. Have fun!
Hi Marisa,
We had this on our wedding invitation. The length of your dress does not matter. What you need to worry about is that the dress is very a formal function. Very elegant dress not a summer beach floral. Your husband should be in a dark suite vs just a coat and tie or pants and a jacket. This is also a way to kindly ask adults to leave their kids at home since this will be a formal function. If the kids need to be there try to have them only for a brief time at the function. I hope this helps.

It's basically a nice way of telling people to dress nicely and not in khakis or a "summer" style dress. Dark suit for your hubby and a simple black dress is fine for you. You don't need to be over the top but they want you to look very nice. Again, it's just a polite way to tell you.
In my experience, "black tie optional" means that men who already own their own tuxedos can wear them, but no one actually rents one for the event. I think you will be just fine in a dressy short dress. Hardly anyone wears floor length to anything these days. Have fun!
we went to one of these and we rented (so did our friends) and we had a blast - i wore floor legnth - so did my girlfriends - and we blended...
at the same time - allot of other people wore what they had.
good luck.
Marisa,
I have gone to a couple of weddings with that on the invitation. I asked both of the brides what does that mean and they both said, NO KIDS please. Wear whatever you already have, but not something that you would wear to the beach. Hope that helps. Have a great time.
