T.S.
How about a board game for BOTH of them? Or a sprinkler/slip n slide or basket of outdoor stuff like water balloons/guns, etc?
When it's a sibling party I like to try and give something they can play with together :)
We have been invited to a birthday party for a brother & sister. Their birthdays are really close together so they have a dual party. The boy is 10 and the girl is 7. My question is what to get them? I was thinking finger nail polish set for the girl, and the boy I'm just stumped. I'm also on a budget. Any suggestions?

Are you invited because the parents are friends of your or because one of the kids is a friend of one of your children. In the latter case you would only buy a gift for the child who is friends with yours. In the former you buy a gift for both.
When in doubt with boys I go with hot wheel cars. They are only a dollar so you can buy a mess of them, or what your budget allows.
Ask their parents what they like/want/need and what is appropriate. Example: The girl might not be allowed to use nail polish yet.
Movie passes... all kids love them
We started doing money a couple of years ago for birthdays. I guess about at about 7 or 8. We never seem to know if girls are girly-girls or what the boys are into. This way they can put together all the money they get and maybe get something bigger.
If he likes board games, I sell a couple of Discovery Toys that are very popular with 7 year old boys. Visit my link at http://www.discoverytoyslink.com/karenchao
Search for Wiz Kidz, Tactico, and Tricky Fingers. All are very fun.
We also have a cool Space Explorer Set on sale. It comes with a huge book about space and a Star Explorer Kit that helps kids find constellations in the sky. Both kids would really like that one.
Good luck! Let me know if I can help you with anything.

I'd think 2 gifts because they are so far apart in age and different sexes. My Little Pony and Little Pet Shop have cute gifts for under 10 dollars that the girl will like. Little Pony has a pony with a brush and Pet shop has a little pet with a carrier. Both the little girl will love. While the girl would love nail polish it will probably cause a nightmare for the mom. The girl will wwant to play but mom will wwant to watch to make sure it doesnt get on carpet or furniture etc. The boy. Do you know if he is more brainy or more sports orientated. Either way they will both like cards. Baseball cards for sporty. video card cards or other types.
a book would be a great gift, gift certificate to the movies or favorite ice cream shop. most boys like legos but ten might be a bit old for that. even if the gift certificate is for ten dollars its still a great gift. perhaps to a game shop. or to the zoo.
I agree with a joint gift :-)
Legos. There are a variety for any budget and lots of sets from which to chose :)
If you have a Hobby Lobby there, you can buy arts and crafts kits 40% off if you print their coupons. Those are always neat gifts. I think most kids like assembling/painting/playing with these kits. They are pretty cheap to begin with but extremely reasonable with the coupon.
I'm not so sure on a joint gift...I mean they are three years apart and different sexes. A board game is a good idea though, so maybe that would work, but I'd include a gift receipt just in case they have that one already.
For the boy I might suggest some pool toys. I know it's late in the season but there is at least another solid month of pool time and most boys that age I know like water shooters and goggles, pool balls, etc. The balls and the goggles get lost often so even if he has some he probably wouldn't mind another. You could also do beach towels for each of them too. I suppose you could do a joint gift after all like Mamazita suggested and do a few toys and a towel for each. I'm sure you can get sale stuff right now. ;)
I think girls are much easier, maybe it's b/c I am one! I'd say books, nail polish, hair stuff is always good. You could get her one of those craft books that teach you how to make friendship bracelets, jewelery, doll clothes, whatever, that would be fun.
The set for the girl sounds cute. For the boy.. I have no idea. I teach 9-10 year olds and they are into a wide variety of things (comics, computers, video games, sports, leggos, music), so it depends on the kid!
