Sweet Mandy B's on Webster is the hands down favorite in our circle
Where can I get a yummy birthday for an adult? I need to get a birthday cake for my sister who's visiting Chicago. It doesn't have to be fancy or in any special shape. I would just like it to be yummy. What bakeries do you love? Thanks!

Another vote for Austrian Bakery!
I love the Tres Leches cake at Bombon (http://chicagobestcakes.com/menu/).
Not sure what part of the city you live in but Taste of Heaven in Andersonville has delicious and beautiful cakes. They definitely have a homemade taste. Corner of Clark and Balmoral. Enjoy!
You didn't mention how many people would be having cake, but most of the Whole Foods stores in the Chicago area, that I have visited, have a nice selection of absolutely exquisite cakes for four portions. The only one we've tried is the chocolate raspberry. There are other varieties (they're different at each Whole Foods stores) and look equally as scrumptious, but we already know that this is our favorite and it's $9.99. They have larger versions of each, too, but for a larger group, and they cost a lot more.
I agree, Whole Foods does have nice cakes; be sure to ask when a particular cake was baked (or delivered to them), because although the cakes are generally fresh, we got one once that was stale.
We love the Austrian Bakery on Clark Street, and a lot of our friends like Dinkles on Lincoln Avenue. Others will mention the Swedish Bakery in Andersonville, but we've found their cakes to be dry and not as tasty as the other places I've mentioned. Have fun!
Bittersweet Pastry

For not fancy, Whole Foods and even Jewel and Dominick's have tasty cakes.
