I have never been on BC so what is out there.I have 3 kids & after 5 days late on my period just started it I'am really wanting to get on some sort of BC.I'm going on 30 this month so that is hitting me hard along with other things. Please give me some advice on these pills, shots, etc.I'm not wanting to gain weight I would like to loose the weight & have some control of PMDD
I think I will have to try the Nuva Ring or sesanique,I hate taking medication & anything that causes side effects YUCK.I do know when I ovulate so I stay complety away from sex,but just to put my mind at ease that at least if i'm steadily on sometyhing the risks are much lower to conceive I luv babies I want another one someday before late 30's but right now it can't happen plus with my bleeding after delivery it is a risk next time I can bleed so badly it may take surgery.I'm unsure on tubal ligation if my husband would agree to a vasectomy great but that ain't gonna happen.I'll read more on BC it's nice to know that woman just like me care about what we put into our bodies.I have never ever wanted to be on BC but it look's like i'll have to.

I was on the Patch for a year and it made me gain a lot of weight but made my breasts really big, which was nice ;) but I went off of it because I heard about blood clots, etc. I was on the pill for 4 years (ortho tri-cyclen) and it made me moody. I tried the Nuvo Ring and really didn't like it. I haven't been on BC for a long time, like 8 years. I used the calendar to track my cycle for BC methods and to get pregnant. I'm not good with the hormones in the BC. I was thinking about mirena after having two kids, but have heard bad stories about it. Good luck!! I hope you find something that works. Everyone reacts differently to BC. OBs won't tell you all the side effects but one of them is low libido for some women.

I have the Mirena IUD, and haven't had any major side effects from it. I can't take the pill and the diaphragm is just not reliable enough for me. Tracking your cycle is more reliable than diaphragms, but still not enough for me. I know waaay too many people who have gotten pregnant by keeping track and not having sex at certain times of the month. The only side effect I have had from the IUD is I think it probably has diminished my sex drive some. Not a lot, but it seems to have a little.
I was on the Depo shot for years, and gained a lot of weight that was very difficult to get off even after I quit taking it. And it made me very moody and caused anxiety issues. I don't recommend it at all.

mirena IUD is what I use ( 5 years now) and is wonderful! I do not even notice it is there and little side effects, if any. no weight gain and my insurance even covered it (some do not, so check on it) it is good for 5years and I can honestly say it is the best thing for me! good luck!

We use and Love Natural Family Planning. It is 90% effective when used correctly. There are NO side effects. You read the signs of your body to see when you are ovulating. You can find out more about it at nfpandmore.org

Hormone BC options
- Pills
- Patches
- Shots
- Ring
- Mirena IUD
I took the pill for almost ten years and only had some very minor side effects. I gained about 10 pounds when I first started, but I was also not conscious about diet and exercise at the time either. Within six months of starting the pill, I lost the weight (I started watching what I ate and exercised some at this same time). I was on about 3 or 4 different types over the years just because my insurance kept changing. They all seemed the same to me, although I remember trying one type that made me cry pretty easily. Again, after the first 2 or 3 months, my body adjusted and that side effect was gone.
Then, my OB gave me a free sample of the Nuva Ring. I was very hesitant at first. I didn't like the idea of putting it in and taking it out, but I agreed to try it. Wow. I loved it! I never really had a problem remembering to take my pill every night, but I liked only having to think about birth control 2 times a month. It wasn't difficult or uncomfortable to put in/take out after the first month, and I hardly ever felt it except once every few months it would slide down a bit and I'd just take it out and put it back in. It's basically like one of the jelly bracelets from the 80's, only smaller. You push the sides together and slide it in, then it expands inside and stays there until you take it out. My husband rarely felt it during sex, and occasionally I would take it out just to keep my mind off it at the time. I used this until we were ready to start adding numbers to the family.
If you try anything hormone related, there will be risks and possible side effects, all of which are increased if you smoke, are overweight, or take other medications. If you're fairly healthy, the side effects will fade after the first three months. If they don't, then talk to your OB and switch to something else. Wish you the best!

I had mirena for a year and couldn't loose weight in fact I gain enough back that I was back at my eight month pregnancy weight! Also I was so moody and out of control of my emotions most people thought I had bipolar. I also had bad cramps for awhile with it but the only plus was I had no period. if you have anger issues mirena and the depo shot will make them worse. a good friend of mine was on depo and had a lot of emotional issues and the depo escalated them out of control plus it makes you gain weight. Watch out for YAZ because they have a big recall on it recently.
Honestly they all have side affects and so if your sensitive to any hormone change they will all have some kind of affect on you.

I would also second the mom who suggested Natural Family Planning. It's basically learning your cycle (which every woman should learn!) and it's simple enough to learn on your own. I also have 3 beautiful children and wanted something that wasn't going to alter my body with chemicals and other side effects so going with something completely natural was the way for me. There is also another nice site with materials and information at ccli.org.

I took the pill for many years (probably 10?) and really liked it. I did not gain any weight and had no problem remembering to take it, but if you think you will, don't do it, you'll end up with another child. I have the Mirena currently and had it once before and I really like it. You may have a little wacky bleeding for a few months, but it should even out around month 3-5.

Do some research on NuvaRing. It goes in the vagina and emits a low dose of hormone. You can take it out for several hours and put it back in. It is taken out after 3 weeks and discarded. No pills to remember, no surgery required, nothing implanted.
I made the mistake of getting the depo shot...BAD IDEA! Not only did it cause weight gain(on top of not losing pregnancy weight) My husband and I have been trying for over a yr to have another baby. Now in your case you may be at the point that you've decided 3 is enough and are done altogether. If you aren't worried about the weight gain then the depo may be good for you, I didn't have a period the whole time either so that could be a plus for you if you have the same experiance. But if you think that MAYBE you may change your mind in a few months then the shot is not for you.

There are so many different birth control options now and i was confused but i got the implanon in my arm at my 6 week postpartum visit and for the 1st 4 or 5 months i had crazy bleeding but now i havent had a period since, barely any spotting, and i dont have to do anything to it which is good because im kinda forgetful! It lasts for 3 years before you have to get it removed and i havent gained any weight with it but im also breastfeeding so that could be why. its about the size of a pencil lead and i was so scared to get it placed in my arm but it really wasnt that bad and they numbed it first. here is their website www.implanon-usa.com hope you find one that works for you!

I have been on the pill since I was 16, for period reasons, until I got marrried. I went back on the pill after my second child. I started on OrthoNovum and did that for years, but now I do Seasonique which is the three month pill. I take the pill for three months and then have a period. I have never had any side effects from taking any of the pills. Seasonique, when you first start taking it, you will have some spotting the first few months, I've been on it for two years now and now only spot right before my period. I love not bleeding for three months, and so does my husband for that matter. I have never tried anything but the pill and highly reccomend it. I don't mind taking a pill everyday. Hope this helps Good luck and God Bless.
