Birth Control - Amarillo,TX

I am considering my options for birth control. I am currently on "the pill" and I am not very happy. My "drive" went from low to non-existent. I have recently started putting on weight and have been forgetting to take it alot lately. I am wondering if any moms out there can give me suggestions on alternative birth control methods. I am young (27) and I am not sure if I want more kids but I would like to leave that option open.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

OK, Thanks for all your help. My husband and I have decided to either go with Mirena or NuvaRing. I go to my ob at the end of the month and will ask his opinion on the two. Thank you for all your advise and help!!

I was on the pill since I was 19 years old, and just recently switched to the Nuvaring about 4 months ago. I have been very happy with it. You only put in once a month, leave in for 3 weeks, and take out to have a cycle. Then put in a new one. SO much easier than having to deal with the pill every day. My drive was very low (if not non-existent as well), but when I switched to the Nuvaring, it has gotten somewhat better.

I hate birth control pills because of the weight gain, but I still take it because it's cheaper than a baby. I am taking Yaz and I really love it, my mood swings are just about gone, which in a way has increased my drive. But have you ever considered the "pulling out" method, or condoms. I mean, does this really have to be your problem? There are some really good condoms out there where the feeling pretty much stays the same.

i am no longer going to use any form of chemical birth control, my husband is a pharmacist and the more research he does, the more uncomfortable he is with it for me. i am 28 years old, and we DO want more children, we are actually having trouble, so we are seeing a fertility specialist. however, that's totally beside the point - when we are NOT trying to conceive(like now, b/c we are waiting for testing), we just pay attention to when and how, and take physical measures to prevent pregnancy, get the book "taking charge of your fertility" and get to know your cycle, it takes some time, but it can be absolutely foolproof if done correctly. good luck!

I've tried a few different types of "the pill" and they all had their ups and downs. Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo worked best for me and it has lowest amount of hormones. Yasmin completely stole my sex drive and make me a hormonal mess. I think synthetic hormones are not good for our bodies at all. I'm not sure what method I will try next but you should definitely try a different pill if that's the method you want to use. There are many different kinds out there. I wouldn't recommend skipping periods with "the pill". I did that for about six months and when I finally had one it was absolutely horrible. That's a natural process that just shouldn't be messed with.

Good Luck!

I have tried almost all of the options....never tried any pill cant remember to take the darn things... Ring- was uncomfortable like having a tampon in all the time, but im not even 5'so that might be part of it had DR check to see if it was in right & it was. Patch something in it made me not able to wear my contacts, other than that it was ok I just worried about it comming off. Depo- loved it but i was a bit emotional and having to go get the inj every 12 weeks. I also used a website (FEMTA I belive)it was great and you had to be in tune with your body to understand it. It was right on track when we decided to try! Now I am using Mirenia IUD for about 19 months I am loving it no periods, cramps, moodswings, nothing and its totaly removeable when you are ready! or replaced every 5 years. It really depends on how much time you have to take care of certain things. It's really hard to choose the right thing for you and your family, but good luck it is possible!

I am not a big fan of any of the hormonal forms of bc out there, because they don't seem to be THAT effective (you hear of pregnancies with every type) and the risks and side effects are just not worth it to me. We don't plan to have more kids, so my husband will be getting a vasectomy soon. In the meantime and while we're waiting for the "all clear" I plan to use a diaphragm and spermicide, and have him use a condom. I was on the pill a long time ago and hated it, and my friends have all shared their bc stories and I'm just too leery of anything more high-tech.

I got the Mirena IUD after my 2nd was born and I love it! I didn't gain weight, and it didn't affect my sex drive like the pills did. Your OB/GYN puts it in and it can stay there for up to 5 years. If you decide to have more kids, just go in and get it taken out! Easy as that! It feels like getting a pap smear when they put it in, and I dont feel a thing now! Sometimes forget it's there!! Certainly beats taking a pill every day!
