I had one done and it was a little uncomfortable kind of like a pap smear. I don't think I even felt when they did the biopsy. I was pregnant at the time and did experience a little cramping after so I took it easy and all was well. You should do fine. Again, for me it was kind of like getting a pap smear. Good luck.

It doesn't hurt at all. The worst is it feels like at tiny pinch and you're done. I had the same thing happen to me six weeks after my son was born. I was told that the whole pregnancy will trigger the abnormality that most women seem to get right after birth. Fingers crossed everything will be OK.

I just had this done last week. I did not take any pain medication beforehand. It was uncomfortable when the needle went in for the numbing medicine. It burned slightly and lasted like 15 seconds (like a bee sting). After that I felt nothing and the biopsy is so small that I didn't even notice when the medicine wore off. I told myself that if I can make it through labor then I could do this too! Best of luck to you!

There two biopsy types that I know of. One is a sonogram biopsy and the other is a static biopsy. They don't hurt as much as they are uncomfortable. The sonogram is just what it says it is; they use the sonogram to look at the abnormality. The static is a little more intense. They numb your breast with a topical substance. Also, putting an ice pack on for a few minutes before the procedure will prevent bruising. Of the two, this one is more uncomfortable. Find out which you are having. If you are anxious and want something to keep you calm, talk to your doctor and she'll probably give you something. Please let me know how you are!

I have a high pain tolerance, so maybe I shouldn't answer, but I didn't think it hurt at all. It was just uncomfortable. You might take a couple of ibuprofen or whatever works for you before you go. I was shocked by all the answers about pain killers. It's really not that bad. Also, the first time I had a colposcopy (I've had 2). They didn't need to do a biopsy at all because they didn't find anything. It was just a mistake on the test. This could happen to you too! Don't be scared! If you've had a baby, I would think you'd be ok!

You should ask your doctor for pain medication that you can take before you come in for the procedure. Being relaxed will definitely help you not experience pain. God bless.

My doctor gave me a prescription for a few pain pills, Lortab, took one just before the appointment and had others in case I was in pain later. I only took one other one. The procedure was a bit uncomfortable but not bad at all. Good Luck..

I'm really surprised that your doctor didn't prescrbe you some pain medicine to take before your procedure. I would call and ask about it. My doctor told me it would hurt. In the end it was just like in the dentists office and with and epidural (if you had one). All I felt was a little stick and a burn b/c of the numbing medicine. Then I could only feel pressure. I wish you luck! Please call and ask your doc for some pain medicine.

It is just a little pinch. It does not hurt really. A little uncomfortable because of where they have to be but not bad.

I have had numerous biopsies inside (uterus) & out (vulva)
& I'm sorry to say yes, they hurt. The pain is intense but short-lived & if you've just had a baby, I'm sure you've been through worse. The procedure has always been quick & no pain afterward. I wouldn't take anything with aspirin in it, though as aspirin promotes bleeding.

Don't put if off, it's really not that bad!

Mine did not hurt. Just felt a pull and some pinching. There is some bleeding afterwards, but the worst part of the procedure for me was the worrying beforehand.
Good luck! I hope you have great results.

i'm a squimish person who does not tolerate pain really well, so i almost passed out during the procedure. my ob told me that if i have to get it done again, she would give me a rx for pain to take beforehand to help me relax.
that being said, pain tolerance is very personal. if you have a high tolerance for pain, it should be no big deal. definitely talk it over with your ob, she may be able to give you more insight and a rx if you both feel like you need it.
good luck!

No it does not hurt. You'll feel a little pinch and pull and might have a little bleeding afterwards, IF this is the standard biopsy which is done in the Dr. office, colposcopy?

If if is a cone biopsy, it would more than likely be done in outpatient. I've had both years ago. The cone does not hurt either, just bleeding afterwards.

Best wishes and try not to worry. Paps come back wrong a lot.

Why did your dr do a pap after giving birth ONLY 7 weeks ago?!?!?! Usually they wait because it is normal for a pap to come back abnormal after giving birth because your body is not back to normal yet.

They should deaden the area. You would feel pressure. If it hurts they probably didn't deaden it enough.

I had one in April. It hurt so bad I almost threw up. I've read your other replies and Im suprised. The dr. said it would hurt, but mine was worse than most because my cervics is so deep. He actually had to do it again right before my sergery so I was knocked out.

I would ! My experience was it really hurt !!! Doctors
don't always know if there has been any nerve or vien growth under what that are removing and some times the removal is deeper than they think it will be, not trying to scare you but my 2 minute procedure ended up being 1hr 30min. I had both on a small(grape size)tumor and
it bled a whole lot then required stiches. Just go in with no expectations and God's reassurance that it will all be okay. Oh yes, mine was negative !!

Mine felt like cramps, it probably wouldn't hurt to take advil before if you're really nervous.

I nearly passed out from the pain and my doctor had to stop the procedure. I would definitely recommend (as my doctor did) taking something before hand.
