I don't see what the big deal is. I wonder how many moms that say they would never buy the doll lets their children use temporary tattoos. Those things are everywhere
I just don't know why everyone is making a big fuss over the neck tatooed Barbie...she has a skull tshirt and leopard tight jeans. So what...have you seen the way some little girls go to school these day? I am buying one for the collector value..but if I had a daughter I would buy it for her! Better then the pregnant Midge...I think. Would you buy one for your child?

Well, I don't have a daughter, but I just have to wonder, aside from the collectors, who really *wants* them?
Okay, I don't usually get riled up about this sort of stuff, and although I'm hardly "riled" I do think a neck tattoo is somewhat in bad taste. I'll probably get flogged for this, but a neck tattoo has a stereotype of being somewhat "hoodish" in my opinion. If the tattoo were in a different place I don't think I'd have an issue.
I TOTALLY agree with Manda F. on this one! Barbie really does give young girls an entirely unrealistic example of what women are supposed to look like. Thank goodness my daughter prefers her American Girl dolls to Barbie any day! Barbie was a poor 'role model' before; the visible tattoos just make it worse. Hopefully Mattel will market this one exclusively for the older Barbie fans....No way would I purchase this doll for my daughter!
Afraid not...but I have never been a Barbie fan especially after I found out the origin..
Meh. Tattoo Barbie has been around for several years, at least. She comes with a temporary tattoo gun and temporary tattoos. I guess this latest one is a collector's item, but there HAS been a tattoo Barbie around, so this isn't really news. My kids have Tattoo Barbie, among several others.
I think the idea that Barbie teaches little girls a poor body image is laughable. Hello, has anyone turned on the TV or watched a movie lately? Read a fashion magazine? *eyeroll* Puh-leeze. Barbie is a toy. Angelina Jolie is real. Tell me which one makes you feel worse about yourself when you look at her! LOL
Maybe if I had a tatoo, but I don't.
I never heard about pregnant Midge. I don't think I like that.

As stated in the article, it's meant to be a collector item for adults, not for regular little girls to play with - and only a limited number are going to be made, again, because it's a collector's item, so they may be hard to come by.
I don't really care about tattoos - considering I have one, and am considering more, it would be hypocritical of me to slam a doll that happened to sport tatttoos. I am just not much of a fan of Barbie in general. I think the Bratz dolls and Monster High dolls are worse than Barbie - Barbie is downright wholesome compared to them. In the end, a girl's self-image really needs to come from home and what she is taught by her parents - not some child's toy.
Like others have stated, there are bigger things in this world to get worked up about.
I'm not a tattoo fan. I see how ugly my grandfathers are now... skin is old, tats are a bluish gray color. I almost got me some till my mom pointed out for me to really look at Grandpa's and then think it over. She was right.
So, NO, I wont buy a Barbie, nor will I feed China's rich for the purchase.
I dont think its a big deal.....kinda cool actually. I like the pregnant one too..pregnancy is natural.
I bet extending breastfeeding barbie would cause a riot!
I don't care if people have tattoos. But, if I had a daughter, I wouldn't buy that for her. Mostly because I don't want my child to think she has to be some particular way to be popular, whether it's tattoos, piercings, or a 14 inch waist. Although tattoos are popular, they are for adults, not little kids or pre-teens or even teens.
This does not offend me but i would not buy it. Instead of getting outraged by this, people should just not buy it.
Not for my child, and from what I hear they are being promoted as being for collectors. Sad thing is, these will all be snapped up and sold on eBay for 3 times as much as the $50 they're selling for in the stores, always the way with a "hot" item :((
I think a neck tattooed barbie is inappropriate. why put it on the neck , why not the arm or the upper back? Not to mention she's dressed as an extra in "Shaft". I also think the " princess charm school" barbie is bad. Why aren't there any Engineering school barbies? Girls need to be encouraged in science and math.
I would only buy one for the collector value.
I dont think beautiful young women in over-ink is pretty at all whatsoever.
Not sure if the generation will be sorry for it later when their skin sags and it looks like sh*t, I assume they all know that's a comin.
That tatted Barbie is a sign of a generation. She'll still look pretty when the inked women look bad. They will be able to look at her and sigh and think about the ol' days when they had cute bodies and tight flesh. She will serve as a reminder of sorts.
Also don't forget. Check where these dolls are manufactured. If it's not in the USA, you should not fall for the fad.
Only collectors and tatted mom's will buy them. The untatted and tat haters will not purchase this Barbie. So, basically there won't be many produced which will make them worth MORE when the time is right. So, tatted Mom's you should do what the market is predicting and run out and get yours NOW before the hoarders get them all at the 50 buck price.
do i think tattooed barbie is cute? ABSOLUTLELY! lol would i buy it for my daughter? nope, i would rather put that 50$ towards one of my own tattoos :)
I don't like Barbie in general, but this one is $50 bucks and marketed to adult collectors. It's not like your child will see one at target and beg for one. To be honest I don't see how it's any worse than those awful Bratz dolls or those creepy Twin dolls. A creepy doll that looks like your child?? Forget about corrupting young minds... talk about nightmares!
i don't care about how people feel about anything. it's usually my choice. for example,i thought bratz dolls were butt-ugly so I never got any for my girls. my girls were in barbie stage for about 6 months. during those months we got plenty of barbies, which now are collecting dust.
so my kids won't know about them because they don't like barbies anymore. if they were into them and asked for them i would have allowed santa to get them one each. barbie is just keeping up with a world gone mad. just like all of us
I see nothing wrong with it. It is $50 though so I'm not so sure I'd buy one for my 2 1/2 year old daughter just because of the price. Maybe to set aside for her. I'm very tempted to buy one for myself.
Honestly the $50 dolls aren't made to be marketed to young children to be playing with, they are being aimed at the adult collector. One more reason I don't see what the stink is all about.
I've got better things to be worried about.
I have pregant Midge !! She is married and having her second baby ( story on the back of the box) so I do not see the big deal . Neither with the tatooed Barbie.
LOL I'm sorry but I've spent the last few minutes thinking there's a pregnant midget doll...that really shocked me...thank God I re read the whole post.
In regards to Barbie; it doesn't offend me BUT my girls have never been into Barbies. they're more lego crazed than any other toy.
I agree that Barbie is not the greatest toy if you want to teach your girl about healthy self-steem and body image.
there my 2 cents.
If I had a daughter, I wouldn't buy this for her. Why put the idea in her head that this is "cool". Sure, she'll end up seeing it at a friends house or school, but I wouldn't want to send the message that I think tattoos are nice. Sorry to anyone who has one, but I often see them on women at the beach and often times I think they look unattractive. I remember thinking about getting one at 20 and now that I'm 30, am so glad I didn't as my tastes have changed.
It's gross and I totally don't support it.
At $50?? No, I'm not buying one. I have a tattoo, and so does her dad (3 of them) and her big sister (again 3 of them). So the tatoos are not a big deal. The price is.
I really get tired of all the things we're supposed to be "outraged" about.
In Europe, they have a pregnant "Barbie."
My In-Laws, gifted my daughter with one, when she was like 5 years old.
They didn't have that doll in the USA at that time, to my knowledge.
It looks like Pregnant Midge.
My daughter would not like the tattoo Barbie.
The ad says its aimed towards the adult collectors. Not kids.
My mom used to collect, before the Barbie market crash. She is up in arms. I think it looks cute. I don't care for the tattoo and would probably buy it for my daughter if it weren't for the tattoo. Tattoos just aren't are thing.
Someone will always find something negative with whatever doll is currently on the market, or toy, or book, or whatever...lol.
I personally like the doll, and think it's cute. I would have it as a collectors item, but wouldn't give it to my daughter. Thats just because she's young and wouldn't take care of it and it's 50 bucks! Maybe if it were 10 bucks I wouldn't care and would happily buy it for her. =P
I think we influence our children much more than any doll or toy. We are the roll models in our lives so I really don't sweat things like this. Tattoos are soooo popular now, and I don't think it' because of a tattoo barbie.
