Beyblades Questions

My son is just getting into Beyblades and we're trying to start a collection for him. We also want to give some to his friend for his upcoming birthday. I don't really know the difference between all of them, so I thought maybe some beyblade veterans here could help me out.
One friend mentioned that the metal ones are better than the plastic ones. Is this true, and why? Are the plastic ones bad, or is it ok to give those as a gift? Target had them on clearance so I can buy a lot more for the same money as it would cost to get just a couple of metal ones.
Finally does each package come with everything you need to play? Or do some of them only have the spinning part but not the launcher part? I'm kind of confused about what you need to actually play with them.

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks, everyone! I did pick up a couple of the plastic BayWheelz that were on clearance at Target, but I think I'll return them. Better to have fewer but better quality than a lot of cheap, crappy ones! Sounds like everyone loves these toys. His friends have been bringing them to swim meets and he seems to love them, so I'm excited to start a collection for him. Thanks again!

The metal ones spin WAY better than the plastic ones. No harm in getting some plastic ones, but you'll probably find he prefers the metal. Each beyblade comes with everything you need to play, including a launcher (it's really just a long plastic strip that gets the spinning started). However, a stadium is really really helpful. The cheap plastic one is just fine because all you really want for beginning play is to keep the beyblades contained so they hit each other.

My six year old girls have four metal beyblades and the plastic stadium and that's all they need. Some kids get really into them and want to collect them... then it matters which ones you have.

I bought ours on Amazon - just picked the ones that were on sale.

SH, I really enjoyed reading your post! Mommyc, these came out when my boys were young. I'm not surprised they're still on the market. I second using the stadium. I also think that half the fun for my kids was launching the blades with the rip-cord without a specialized "launcher" because they are doing it with their own hands.

Have a blast with them! Fond memories!!

How old is your son?
Which one's does he like?

The metal ones are sturdier... tougher. Its, metal.
Kids play with it, with no gentleness.
The metal ones, can take it.

My son went through that last year. He's 6.
He would know which ones he likes and which ones are rare etc.
He has a ton of them.
He has the plastic ones too, but the metal ones spin better. Its heavier and has a better center of gravity. Its just physics.

The Beyblade, should come with a rip-cord type "launcher."
There are fancier launchers, but its not necessary or mandatory that you get those.
You cannot play/spin a Beyblade, without the rip-cord.
It is like a top. You need the rip-cord to initialize the spinning of it.

Many places have Beyblades.
E-bay, Walmart, Target, specialty shops, etc.

And also, a "stadium" or arena, is good to have, because, its the best for playing it. It is made for the Beyblade.

Keep in mind: That, if your kid plays/spins the Beyblade on concrete... it will eat up and chew up the "tip" of the Beyblade. Ruining it.
Because concrete is a hard ROUGH textured surface. My son knew not to use his Beyblades on concrete or on rocky or rough surfaces.
It is best to play it, on a SMOOTH surface. ie: that is why the Beyblade arenas/stadiums are made of smooth hard plastic.
But my son also knew how to change out the tips, and tweak it and make up his own Beyblades using parts from others and interchanging it.
My son keeps his Beyblades, in a plastic tool-box.
Just a regular tool-box that you get from a hardware store.
Its perfect for it and easy to carry and keeps it all organized.

My son and his friends, would give each other Beyblades for gifts/Birthdays. Locally, the Walmart or Target had good deals. Some even was a 2-pack. But always get a gift receipt, in case the other child has it already and wants to exchange it.

Hi there - Former beyblade mom!
THe packages should each have a "launcher" in them. It's just a zip tie thing. But each package has what you need.
The metal ones are better because they don't break as easily. The plastic ones break if you drop them, step on them, or even if they are "battling". (Believe me, I have stepped on them!)
Sometimes you can get on craigslist and find people that would sell a whole slew for a pretty good price, including the dome for "battles". I would check there too!

Do not get the sale ones at Target . They are "Beywheelz" . The kids don't like them at all . Just get a plain arena and a couple of the regular ones . Everything is inside the box that you will need .The arenas are on the bottom shelf . There is a stack of them . They also sell battery operated beyblades but he will enjoy the regular original ones.Have fun !
