I am delivering my baby at NW Community in May (or whenever he decides to come). I just took a tour- it is all NEW, state of the art, level 3 neonatal ICU, great surgical suites for c-sections, etc. I delivered my first 2 downtown at the old Prentice and the new Prentice. It also depends on what OB practice you plan to use -- my chosen one delivers only at NW Community, not at Lutheran. I have been to Lutheran 3 times but never to deliver a baby -- pediatric unit for each of my kiddos 1 time and the pediatric ECU one time -- all the staff were nice and helpful but I have heard RAVES about the maternity/L& D ward staff at NW Community.

If your OB delivers at both, ask their opinion as well! Also, if you are delivering that soon -- why not tour both hospitals and see what you think (you should sign up ASAP at NW Community as they only do them a few times a month and they fill up fast).

Northwest Community Hospital....They have a new maternity ward! I delivered all three of my kids there...I had THREE C-SECTIONS. Great experience with all of the doctors and my pediatrician's office does their rounds there so they saw baby before I went to the first office visit so records were already established...I was well cared for and so were my children....I would go there again in a heartbeat.

I had a terrible experience at Lutheran General...the doctor (mine was out of town) actually said to me "are you in labor? I cant tell". Really??? and it went downhill from there. after my c-section, no one bound my stomach, no one helped me get up and around for 5 days!!!! they litterally just left me there (i did have a catheder). Every time i asked if someone would help me get up to wash up i was told "ill send someone in" and no one would show up for hours. Augh! i could go on & on. I would not recommend LG.

I have had 3 c-sections at NW Community and had a great experience each time...and that was all before they even redid it! My last baby was born right before they finished the remodeling, but it is supposed to be great. I would highly recommend the nurses and staff there - very responsive, friendly and helpful. Good luck!

I've had both of my kids at Lutheran and can't say enough about how I was treated.
My first went naturally - 3 yrs ago, and in 26hrs of labor, the staff was attentive, gentle and listened.
My second was induced this past August, and I wound up with a C-Section. Again, so happy (plus, they've just renovted the maternity ward, so it's REALLY nice).
A bonus? The hopspital supports merely separating your ab muscles during a C, rather than cutting through them. Makes recover SO much faster.
I can't say enough.
