Hello,

I just wanted to see if anyone knows the best hospital in Northern VA is to have a baby?? I know Fairfax is rated high, but does anyone know if the rooms are private, and has anyone had experiences any where else?? My sister just found out she is pregnant, she works in Chevy Chase Md but live in Bristow, VA so she is pretty much open as far as locations!! Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

Fairfax hospital does not have private rooms. I had my daughter at Reston Hospital and it was a wonderful experience. She had to be in the NICU and they were great.

Hi J.,

Only half of the rooms at Fairfax hospital are private so if it is a busy night your sister would have to share. Fair Oaks hospital has all private rooms. If there is any concern of problems I would suggest going with Fairfax hospital because that is the one with the neonatal ICU for the iNova system. However if it should all be normal then I would say go with Fair Oaks Hospital because she would get a private room!

I had my son via C-section at Fairfax hospital and didn't get a private room for 2 days, which when I had just had a baby the last thing I wanted to hear was the crying baby in the other half of the room and the woman talking loudly on the phone to someone at 3 am......

Congrats to your sister!

I had both my baby's at PW hospital and had a WONDERFUL experience!!! They were great. The birthing center is pretty new. It has nice big labor rooms and ALL private rooms. They have a pull out couch for the husband to sleep on. I also live in Bristow. I go to PW OBGYN and all of the doctors there are amazing. That is if she is looking for a new doctor. I HIGHLY recommend PW hospital!!!!!

I had my son at Fair Oaks Hospital. The delivery room was huge and I got great care. Once my son was born, they switched me to a teeny private room. Just enough space for the bed and a pull out chair for my husband.
The nursing staff was so-so. Due to rotation, I didn't get the same nurse each time they checked on me and while some were decent, some were obviously just doing a job and I didn't feel the same great care that I got in delivery. The last nurse I got was really nice, but very pregnant and you could tell she needed a break. I felt very uncomfortable as she was required to wheel me out to the car when we left. In the end, I just got up and walked. I think she was extremely relieved.
The food was so-so, but I really wasn't thinking of the food while I was there.
I was able to tour the place before going in.
I'd have another child there.

I had my soon at Prince William Hospitals Hylton Birthing Center in Manassasa. It was a great expereience. They allow you to tour the birthing Center before hand. i had a private room that had a pullout couch that the father can stay overnight on if you'd like. They also allow the baby to stay in room with you if you'd like to. All around great experience.

Hi J.,

I've had all my 3 kids at Fairfax Inova. They do have private rooms, just request it when you sign in. Although, you can pre register and request the room, so that once your sister is in labor she doesn't have to stand at the registration desk and fill out papers/request the private room.

I've heard FairOaks Inova is pretty good as well.
Although, make sure she checks with her doctor OB/GYN to see if he/she does delivery at these locations or where ever she chooses.

Good Luck & Congrats!! :)

The one closest to home that your dr. works out of!

Prince William, close to Bristow, has an AWESOME center. All rooms are private, you can have someone stay with you overnight, and the baby, if healthy can stay in the room with you, if you want.

I have had all four of my kids at Prince William Hospital and they were great. Their emergency room service SUCKS but if you are having a baby they are awesome. My daughter had a baby there back in September and you have private rooms. The nurses were very nice and they all seem to treat and love the babies as if they were their own.

I had my daughter at Reston Hospital, and LOVED it. I believe that all rooms are private, the nursing and lactations staff were very helpful, the food was good, and all new moms get a massage!
Congratulations and good luck!

I had my son via C-section at Fairfax Hospital and was very happy. The staff is wonderful and very friendly. Yes they do have private rooms for and extra charge of $100 per day. The cost is usually covered by insurance, but the hospital would let you know if you wanted the option. Otherwise the rooms are double rooms. A private room is definately worth the extra cost though.

I had both my babies in Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington and was very pleased. All the rooms are private and the nursing staff is excellent, for both L&D and post-birth care. They have a very new NICU (fortunately I didn't need it but my friend that had premature twins there was very impressed with the NICU and staff.) You actually order your food off a menu so there is some choice. I have a friend who used to work as an L&D nurse at INOVA Fair Oaks (now she works the ER there) and she would say that of the INOVAs, Fair Oaks is the best for birthing...Reston and Fairfax have very high percentages of C-Section births. Hope this helps, and that your sister has a healthy and happy pregnancy and birth!
