I switched to the Nuvaring 3-4 months ago, after being on the pill for many years. So far it has been great. No side effects that I can tell. Period is lighter and shorter too. So much easier just once a month!
Hey guys! I'm just wondering what you have found to be the best birth control method? I've taken the pill which was fine as long as I could remember to take it, and I'm currently on the depo shot which I've taken just because I only have to get it every 12 weeks but I've heard more bad things about it than I have good. My mom seems to think it's all in my head and I should keep taking the shot but I want other options to. I need something that I will be able to get off of and get pregnant easily (not a year and half later like with the shot). Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I personally do not believe in birth control methods other than the condom, abstinence, and the natural method. I have tried different pills and I have either gained weight from them or been bedridden sick. I do not believe in injecting or downing artificial hormones in your body, but if that is your cup of tea... I think it is best to explore your options and research the effects of each contraceptive that is out there. The best method, I think, is the natural rhythm method. Downside is that you have to watch and count days, but there is downside to everything and I rather be healthy than sick!
The only thing I can speak to is the patch. The pill always made me sick so I tried the patch. It gave me migrains and made me sooooo sick it was amazing. My cousin was on the depro shot and it has been credited with her migrains and her major weight gain. I wish you luck.
I'm on ortho evera (the patch) and I love it. It is a beige "sticker" that you can put on your stomach or backside and you switch it out once a week. It is low hormone so I have had very few side effects (I could never keep the pill down). I have never had a problem with it coming off while in water (swiming, bath, etc.). Some people don't like it because you can see it, but that has never bothered me or my husband. I have heard good things about the IUD but it kind of freaks me out so the patch is a good option for me.
If you are wanting to have more children soon I am not sure if I would do Mirena. I use the NuvaRing and love it I have two children 2 and 1. I am so busy I tend to forget taking a pill so with the NuvaRing there is no remembering. I thought it would be weird at first, but I have not had any problems at all with it.
The Mirena IUD has been great for me. I have no real period (just some spotting from time to time) nor any PMS symptoms of any kind. It lasts 5 years and I'm pretty sure you can become pregnant quickly after having it removed. Good luck with your decision.
I've been on the pill, the patch, Nueva Ring and Mirena. By far the Mirena is the best. Mirena does hurt with the installation of it. After that, your periods get lighter, however at first you will spot at different times. So, I'm down to pantiliners every so often now. I much prefer pantiliners to tampons and pads.
With the Nueva Ring, I had more pain and it was messy and I had large brown spots on my face. With the pill, I forgot sometimes to take it. The patch wasn't too bad, however I had to go in and replace every so often. With the Mirena it is good for 5 years. Sometimes I get crampy and a little headache or backache and that's it. Much better than the others in my opinion.
My Dr. had a DVD and info on Mirena and I watched it and it was very helpful, you might check into the DVD.
I would go with the Mirena IUD. You don't have to worry about taking a pill and you can start trying after you've had 2 periods (I think). I would do it again. Good luck.
I agree with the Mirena IUD. The "installation" is uncomfortable, but in the long run, I've found that it's worth it.
