Bedtime Songs

I sing "All My Loving" by the Beatles or "Make You Feel My Love". I sing a lot of the songs from the For the Kids album, especially "The Rainbow Connection". My boys love it!

But I can't sing. Those are the only 2 songs my son ASKS for me to sing (much less allows), and it's only because he doesn't know what they're supposed to sound like. They're "supposed" to sound like me :D :D :D

But when my kids were little they loved this song so much more when I personalized it by changing the lyrics but keeping the same melody.

You could say the word daughter, or baby, etc... instead of your child's name. This one song was sang every night before I placed my twins in their cribs. We also sang Kumbaya My Lord. It was like a ritual.... these two songs calmed them in and let them know that bedtime was now approaching. Ahhh... brings back precious memories..... holding them near me while rocking and singing to them. I still sing every now and then but at 9 yrs. old, my son kind of thinks I'm crazy if i sing him a lullaby.

My husband sang "his" song to each one of them too. He is Greek and he would sing... Christos Anestis. "Christ Has Risen." He had such a sweet way of singing it to them. I think I am going to ask him to sing it again!

My kids eventually started to sing me their version of Are You Sleeping. So it went like this.... Christina loves mommy, Christina loves mommy, yes I do...... (Now that was so cute and I think I recorded it!)

We have always sang "I will follow you into the dark" by Deathcab for Cutie since my son was a newborn. He's so funny because it played on the radio while we were driving the other day and he just yells "HEY! it's not bedtime!!"

Hush Little Baby

As soon as my grandson hears me start he settles down and starts to fall asleep. I don't know if really likes the song or it's self defense (maybe if I close my eyes she'll stop). ;-))

We have the same routine every night. I sing "The Mommy & Me Song" that I made up the day she was born. Then she and I discuss where we are going to meet in our dreams that night. Sometimes it's disney world, the beach, at the park, and other times it's "skedewing" (from blues clues) into the Candy Land game or a picture she's seen. And then hubby, DD, and I will all sing the "I Love You" song from Barney.

I also sing Baby Mine, too! :) Here are a few that I can think of at the top of my head....
-Twinkle Twinkle Little Star (I sang this to both my boys ever since I was pregnant with them.:)
-Edelweiss (from Sound of Music)-I make up my own lyrics with it too. Both my boys love it.
-Frere Jaques (Are You Sleeping?) (I also change the lyrics to "Mommy Loves You, Mommy Loves You, Yes I do, Yes I do, Mommy loves you, Mommy Loves You, Yes I do, Yes I do."-My two year old loves it and quietly sings it with me now. :)

-Parsley, Sage Rosemary and Thyme by Simon and Garfunkel (total 60s song from my parents' generation, but my boys love it!) :)

The Goodnight Song (I don't know the real name of this one, either)

My daughter is now 9 (will be in Oct.) and still asks me to sing these to her at bedtime. She wants to learn them really well so she can sing them to HER babies! The little sweetie!
