My daughter (4yrs.old) has been potty trained for 2 yrs. now and NEVER had accidents in bed ever. Recently she's had about 3 in the night and not a big deal except for the one time she was in my bed. I took the sheets off and scrubbed, scrubbed, scrubbed, used Tide laundry soap and let it air dry a few days later I poured frebreeze directly on the spot and let it air dry again. I am looking for advise on how to get the stain out and how to get rid of the odor? And if anyone else would have any advise on why she's wetting all of sudden and never did before.

What can I do next?

Sometimes it's a physical thing with a growing kid. My brother and I had a small urethra, the "hole" by which the urine leaves the body. So we were "pushing", using muscles to urinate. This caused the bladder to be small, I seem to remember them saying there was a bunch of muscle around the bladder limiting it's size. So we both had surgery to enlarge the urethra, and soon had no problems.

Ask your pediatrition.

You really need to use a steam cleaner with and uphostery tool it wets the area and sucks out the bacteria and cleans up the smell. (Best to use on freshly soild areas, but will help on older ones.) Also pet spot oder treaters are also effective on children oops, Petzyme is the one I am currently using and it works well. We also use cotton mattress protectors they soak up messes before they get to the real mattress and they are comfortable unlike plastic lined ones. Good cleaning to you and hang in there on the potty training sounds like you have a really good start.

Hi B.,

I encountered a similar situation with sudden bed wetting with my son and I still have no idea why it happened. He was completely night trained when we was potty trained at 2-1/2 (he's 4 now) and suddenly he was having a series of accidents. It went away on it's own as fast as it came and we haven't had any problem since (knock on wood). Sorry I can't shed any light on that, but I CAN help with the stain issue. I used OxyClean powder and mixed it with warm water, doused the mattress, and let it air dry for a couple of days. Mind you, the outline of the water stain was still faint but the odor and stain was completely gone. Good luck!

I don't know about the stain & odor, but when my nephew was 5 he started wetting at night after being totally potty trained for 2 years. He was also gaining weight at a quick rate, and was thirsty all of the time. My sister brought him in to her pediatrician and he was diagnosed with juvinial diabetes. I don't mean to raise any medical red flags for you, it's just that we were all unaware of the "signs" of diabetes prior to his diagnosis, and if we had known what to look for, appropriate measures could have been taken sooner.

Sorry, no help on the WHY she's suddenly wetting the bed, but you might try Atmosklear to get rid of the odor. I've used it on other things (pet odors, milk spilled in the car) and it works great. Plus it's non-toxic, environmentally friendly, and isn't perfumed (like Febreeze, which I think smells awful). It's also made in Minnesota. You can buy it at Ace Hardware for sure and I've seen it in Target too, I think. Look it up at www.atmosklear.net. Good luck!
