Great question. Contact the company that made the thermometer and ask them. If they can't tell you or the answer seems questionable, then find a company who will and purchase their product. Also, do some internet searches.
I have recently started charting my BBT (3 days so far). It occured to me this morning as I was waking up that perhaps the temperature in my room might affect my temperature. My finace has the thermostat set to kick on at about 5 to get the house warmed up a bit before I get up at 5:30. I'm usually nice and toasty warm when I get up. My temperature has been 98.15, 97.8 and 98.05. Is this high? We have decided to start charting now because we are trying to use the Shettles method for a boy. So I'd like to have a few months of accurate charts before we are actively trying. I'd like to start out right and not be doing something that will change my results. Any help anyone has would be great. I'm really new at this part of it!
Thanks so much!

I am sure some of the environment does contribute but those are not very high. I haven't charted in a good 3 years or so but from what I remember those are normal range. As you see them get higher into the 99's is when you know things are occuring in your body.
Very cool! I used the same book to get my son. We have 3 girls and our last one was a boy. Just keep taking your temp. If your house is the same temp every morning it shouldn't change how your body temp changes. When we tryed for our son, I didn't want to wait long enough to figure out my cycle so I took my temp for a month and checked fluids and then we used the ovulation kits twice a day. It worked! Have fun trying!
It won't do you any good to compare your temp to other women (although that is a perfectly normal temp). You will be comparing them to your own measurements day to day. No matter what your "normal" is in a warm room, it will still go up with ovulation. Just be sure that you are taking your temp before getting out of bed. Just roll over and grab the thermometer. The warm room is constant day to day, so whatever affect it may have on your internal temp, it will have every day, so it won't matter.
You are doing fine. Be sure to keep meticulous charts and to take your temp before you get out of bed or even sit up. It should be on a nightstand next to the bed, roll over (same time each and every day) and take your temp. Back when I did that (and the Shettles method to get my son) I used to go back to sleep afterwards on the weekend and the thermometer stored the temp so I could take the reading later.
Don't worry about how the house temp affects your body temp, if it does have an affect it will be the same effect everyday and so it won't show in what you are doing. I doubt there is any serious effect or summer and winter would really screw us up.
Good luck!!
Hi B.,
I'm not sure how much knowledge you have on BBT, but the general idea is that your temperature goes up when you ovulate and goes back down when you start your period. I've been taking my temp almost every morning for 15 years and it always rises to about 98.5 after I ovulate and drops to below 98 the day I start my cycle. It doesn't matter what time of the year it is or how warm it is in my house/room. What IS a factor in getting correct temps is WHEN you take your temp. It supposed to be taken as soon as you wake up, before you get out of bed (as soon as you start moving around, your body temp goes up), before you have a conversation (if you are taking your temp orally), before you have anything to drink, etc., that can affect the actual temperature of your mouth.
I hope this is sound advice for you and helpful. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and baby planning!

The only advice I really have is to give it more than three days time for an evaluation. Considering the normal human body temp is 98.6 I think you are running cold rather than hot. I don't think the temp in the room would affect your body that much.
Good luck!
I can understand the wanting to have a boy aspect, but trying to caculate and predict is next to impossible. Why don't you leave it up to your new husband and God. Enjoy trying to concenive and just relax and stop trying to make charts, its only going to stress you and the new hubbie out eventually.
Good Luck
You know, my temperature has been over 98 for the past few days...and that's totally normal for me. I think the most important thing is that, whatever is going on in your room (temperature, time, etc.) you make it the same every night. If your house is set to warm up before you wake up, then it warms up...the numbers aren't the big deal, the changes are...so keep everything else constant.
Consistency in the environment is a bigger factor. Your temps sound fairly normal; not a temp rise. I HIGHLY recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Wheeler. It give the break down of both temping and physical symptoms, such as cervical mucose. There is also a website based on this approach: www.ovusoft.com. You can ask all of your questions and get feedback on your chart-- it's fabulous!
We have had 2 successful pregnancies with this method.
Best wishes on your upcoming marriage & family!!!
