... someone else mentioned polly pockets... if you don't have them yet... run screaming. They are IMPOSSIBLE to get the clothes on and are so tiny that you'll be vacuuming them up every night!
What ages were you kids when they really played with Barbie dolls and stuff like that?

My daughter is 5 and she loves Barbie dolls. They are one of her favorite toys. She started getting really interested in them right around 4 - 4 1/2.
I can't tell you when my girls played with their barbie dolls. I just don't remember.
But I can tell you that when I played Santa last year at a mall that about 85% of girls from 3 to 10 asked for one or more barbie dolls. Most of them asked for two different ones.
If the dad's were with their children, I'd ask the girls that wanted Barbie Dolls, what their dad's favorite barbie was. I got some strange looks from the dads and one or two scowls. Some times the girls had an answer and some times not. So what is a dad's favorite Barbie? Bar-B-Q LOL
Good luck to you and yours.
Every kid is different. My oldest hardly played with them much at all. My youngest has been playing with them since about 7. She's 9 now and really into them. Her friend is almost 10 and really in to them too. But my nieces are 11 and hardly ever were interested. Hard to say.
My oldest never really liked Barbies, but my youngest played with them a lot, from age 3 to 9.
My daughter preferred GI Joe's over Barbie's - she had all of my Barbies, airplane, Country Camper, Beach Buggie and Tent all the stuff from the '70's and it was OKAY - she played with Barbies and GI Joe's from about 4 to 9...
My boys still play with their GI Joe's and soldiers and are 9 and 11.
I think my oldest got her first item of Barbe paraphernalia when she was about 2 or 3. She didn't *really* start playing with them till she was a bit older though. She's 5 now and could take them or leave them most days. What she REALLY loves is those 4 inch disney princess dolls with the rubber clothes. She and my 3 year old just go NUTS for those!
I would say my oldest really got into them around 5 years old. Her sister around 3 1/2, but maybe because of the influence of her sister. They are about to turn 6 and 4 and still play with them often.
My younger one is currently obsessed with Barbie. She is 6.
about 4 or 5 ish now she is 6 and still goes in spurts with what she plays with
My daughter is 9 and now she is designing and making outfits for them. She hasn't spent too much time playing with Barbies over the years, her interest comes and goes, but she has liked the ones that turn into mermaids the best.

My daughter was significantly older when she started to really play with Barbie dolls, she is 10 now and it has really only been the last 3 years that she has actually had a real interest. She was so much more interested in playing with dolls and Littlest Pet shop things, we also went through a terrible period of Polly Pockets when she was really little ( like age 3 and up) and I was so so happy when she got tired of them. I found Polly Pocket stuff every where and tiny enough for a vac to suck up or to hurt like Hades when stepped on = )
I don't think she played with them until age 5 or 6. Younger than that, children don't have the fine motor skills to change clothes or play with all the accessories.
My youngest daughter prefered poly pocket (not the tiny ones, but the ones about 3" tall) and little pet shop. These were her favorites from ages 6 to 10.
Barbies entered our lives when my daughter got some at her 4th birthday party. She really liked them fo a period around 6, but never really obsessed. However, my youngest has always had them around because of her sister. Bshe is 3 and likes them but likes baby dolls better.
My oldest daughter never was into dolls. She is 16 and has given or put away most of them.
My 13 yo had many but her favorites starting at about 3 or 4 were Polly Pockets. She still will take her Pollies to friend's houses when they have sleepovers.
We have had up to maybe 35 Barbies, but neither of the girls ever really got into them.
My nieces are 3 and 6 and the oldest one loves her Barbies.
My girls are 6 and 3 and their Barbies do not get played with that much. They seem to prefer smaller figures like Little People, Polly Pockets, the Disney Princesses with the clothes that change, and the small Strawberry Shortcake dolls. They sometimes take the Barbies in the bathtub, but that is the most they get played with.
She was given one when she was 3, because it looked like her, but she really did not play with them til 4.. She had a ton of them.. She used to make all kinds of crazy clothes for them and pose them for photos..
We gave her a 60 drawer /compartment cabinet, to keep all of the accessories. We could point to a drawer and she could tel you without opening it what was in each drawer..
She also had a 3 drawer roll around cabinet for the clothing and all of the dolls.
She also loved Polly Pocket, but we never had a problem with them all over the place, she was pretty meticulous about keeping them all together. It probably helped we do not have any carpet in our house so clean up of the tiny things is a lot easier.
