Hi ladies

I live in Delaware County and I am looking for a baker/bakery that does more than the standard round or sheet cake for a birthday cake. Specifically, I want a "princess castle" for my daughter's 4th birthday.

Any recommendations- and why did you love your cake? If you would also mind giving me an idea how much it cost??

Thanks!

What can I do next?

Sophisticakes in Drexel Hill did an excellent sheet pound cake for my daughter's party last month. For half sheet, I think it's like $32. They do all kinds of unique designs. Check out their website: www.sophisticakespa.com

BTW, I used Clay's Creative Corner in Berwyn mentioned in another post for my daughter's 1st birthday party. The cake was beautiful and delicious, but double the cost and quite far away (I live in the Glenolden area). I think Sophisticakes was just as tasty and the guests asked for the name of the bakery...

Hi, S.,

I live in Bryn Mawr and when my daughter wanted a cake shaped like a teapot, the only place I could find that would do that was Clay's Creative Corner Bakery in Berwyn. It was really far for me, and coming from Swarthmore, it would be a hike for you, too, but I called a TON of places all up and down the Mainline, and that was the ONLY place that would do it. I'm not sure of anywhere in DelCo that would do a custom cake like that. Oh, and it cost $60.00. Yes, you heard me correctly. Sixty dollars. Actually, hang on, I've recently seen some pretty elaborate cakes in the grocery store bakeries...I would first check with Genuardi's, Target or Acme, they just might have what you want.

I don't have a bakery, but I get all my cakes done by this girl. Her name is Jen Hocker and she lives in the Glenolden area. I attached her websites below. She is phenomenal!!! You could look at her website for all the cakes she had done and I've also sent her pictures of what I want and she can replicate anything! Plus, her cakes are absolutely delicious!! However, although I consider the cost worth it, it's not going to be cheap compared to a supermarket cake. I always supplement with cupcakes and stuff, b/c the kids seem to like that better so I don't have to get too big of a cake. I highly recommend her....she's just great! Below is her website...check it out!

I would have gone with Clays. I have heard some bad things about the home bakeries and how they clean things. Hope the party was fantastic.
