Bad News with the ultrasound.....cystic Hygroma

After the joy of seeing our little peanut (9 weeks pregnant) on the ultrasound we were given the devastating news that there was a cystic hygroma detected.

Neither my husband or I really know anything about this.

As of now, we have an appt next week to get another ultrasound to see if the cystic hygroma is still there. If it is, we will be scheduled for a CVS...and go from there.

Can anyone share any info, tips, advice, questions to ask the doctor...etc.?
So far the research I did on the internet is pretty grim... :-(

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all who answered my question earlier.
Unfortunately, we lost the baby. His/her heart wasn't beating at my follow up ultrasound appointment yesterday.
It's very sad for us but I've come to the conclusion that the baby was too sick to survive and this is for the best.

No real advice except do what you can to stay off of the internet... your doctors will be the best resources for information and support. Remember that you can ALWAYS call the doctor's office and ask for a consultation to discuss your concerns between now and the procedure. Our "situation"was very minor (placenta previa), but I was in a panic and spending 15 minutes with the doctor talking about the "what ifs..." really helped.

Good luck and I hope you hear something positive.

I have very limited knowledge, but what I know wouldn't make you feel any better. I am so sorry.

I am so sorry to hear this. I found this site that explains it a bit. A few mother's share their experiences, some end sadly, but others with happy endings. You have to remember there are always levels of degrees, so it could very well be that yours is something that can be dealt with and still have a healthy child. I think you will know more what to expect when the pregnancy progresses and after the CVS. I hope you have much prayers and a good support system, I suppose if it were me, I would have faith and be prepared for any possible outcome.

Hi K.,

I am so sorry to hear about this news at your first ultrasound.

The following website is very helpful:

http://www.healthline.com/blogs/pregnancy_childbirth/2007...

It seems to be set up and monitored by an MD/Ph.D who specializes in this field. His advice is sound and helpful.

My best to you and your husband as you decide what to do.
