Bad Diaper Rash! HELP!!!

Warm and wet=yeast. Look for generic clortrimazole (Monistat, Lotrimin), usually in with the foot stuff. (Athlete's foot and jock itch are both yeast infections.) It's also good for SBT (that sweaty boob thing) that heavy-breasted women get sometimes.You only need tiny amounts, and cover with vaseline to keep the skin dry. It'll be gone in a day or two.

Lotrimin (for feet) is the same as monistat, often cheaper. My ped had told me about it. He had told me to combine Lotrimin/Polysporin (bacitracin)/cortisone.

Sounds like a yeast infection. My son got them all the time, nothing would clear up the "diaper rash" until a friend told me that it looked like a yeast infection. I got some of the external "monistat" cream and the rash cleared up within 2 days.
Give it a try.

I wouldn't use the Monistat without talking to her dr first, but I know other moms who swear by it. When my son was a baby his dr told us to mix our own butt cream using Eucerin (we use the cheap walmart brand, make sure it's the kind in the jar, not a tube), antibiotic ointment and itch cream. We usually also mixed in whatever diaper cream we had around, Butt Paste and Triple Ointment worked best for us. Just make sure you put it on really think and rub it in. I acutally need to mix up a new batch for my daugter when I get home tonight.

Sounds like a yeast infection. My daughter had it for a couple of weeks. I thought it was a diaper rash, too. I used A+D, Desitin, calendula oil. Nothing worked and it usually did within a day or two. Other moms told me it was a yeast infection. so we got an over the counter medication... similar to Monistat. But, that took 2 whole weeks for it to go away! Even though we were religiously changing, rinsing than letting her air dry for hours at a time. Slowly, it started to come back. Then, we used plain yogurt and HALLELUJAH.... it worked! Just apply a thin layer with each diaper change and wash/air dry her until it goes away. Just when you think it's gone, apply for another two days. Those yeast infections are the worst and they spread quickly.... so wash your hands thoroughly before and after each diaper change.

I use Boureaux, slather it on and then use Aquaphor to keep it on. My twins get bad diaper rashes and that is the only thing I found that works.

Don't know if you are still breast feeding, but if you are you can rub some breast milk on her bottom.

You can also try some corn starch. It absorbs moisture. Just pat a little around the area.

Have you tried the maximum strength desitin? That is what usually works for me. My first did get one that was really bad, I took him to the dr and he gave me something that knocked it right out. So if you can't clear it up, then a dr visit should do the trick. Yeah I do think that teething has something to do with it because my 8 month old is teething a lot and I have all the sudden been having to break out the cream for him as well. Good luck!!

My son recently had a bad case of diaper rash. Our pediatrician recommended Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It cleared up in a few days with generous use of that cream after every diaper change. However, we also discovered he had eczema as well. We were perscribed a cream by his dr. to clear that up. If the rash will not go away within a couple of days with diaper rash cream alone you may want to take her in to be sure it's not another type of rash, like eczema, or to confirm it has not turned into a yeast infection...which also will not clear up with diaper rash ointment alone.

If it is a yeast/fungal infection you can use a solution of apple cider vinegar mixed with water. Or when she has a bath put 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar in the tub. Apple Cider Vinegar naturally clear up candida which causes the yeast infection (non distilled works the best). Another options is a mixture of tea tree oil and baby oil, tea tree oil also clear up candida. If the rash continues you may want to see the pediatrician in case something else is going on.

Oh and plain no flavor yogurt will also help clear it up. Make sure it is non flavored because the sugar in regular yogurt will actually make it worse.

I've always used Desitin orginal and it's the best. No wet wipes of course, when they have a rash that totally burns...

Budraux Butt Paste is the bomb! After only one or two applications, any rash my daughter had was gone. It is the only thing I will use. Hope that helps. <3

AQUAFOR is the ONLY thing that works on my baby and my last baby. Apply plenty of it, rub it in gently but makes sure there is still a bunch of it. Change her frequently and keep putting this stuff on there. It may take a couple of days to notice any difference but it does work!

Our pediatrician told us several years ago to use Lotrimin AF (anti-fungal) to clear up diaper yeast infections (which ALWAYS accompany antibiotic use, especially Augmentin). There are generic versions available, too.

I highly reccommend cream of calendula, sold at Sun Harvest. It's a little pricey but it was the only thing that worked on my son as a newborn and have used it ever since. Hang in there and God bless.

Don't be afraid to use the topical yeast infection cream ~ I used the store brand and it worked fine, it took 2 days or so to totally clear up. My little girl was just a yr old the first time I used it and has needed it just one time since.

It sounds like your little one has a yeast infection. No matter what you put on it you are fighting a losing battle. You need a prescription. Take her to the doctor. Good luck.

You probably need a antifungal medication like lamisil or lotrimin you can mix it together with a&d pint if it is blistering probably need ex for ex antifungal

BOUDREAUXS BUTTPASTE SWEETHEART!!!! Its the best stuff in the world. I guarentee it will help ur lil one. I will not go anywhere without mine. its a lil pricey but its THE BEST!!!!

Corn Stratch! It was the only thing that worked on my son. Just wait till her bottom is dry and put it on with every diaper change. It worked great got us. I hope she feels quick! Good luck!

Dr. Smith's diaper cream is the best. With the other symptoms, she might have a yeast infection and will require additional medicine. My suggestion is taking her to the pediatrician. If they do prescribe Nystatin ointment, be sure to mix it w/regular diaper cream b/c if you don't, it'll irritate her skin even more.

I use Eucerin Aquaphor healing ointment on my granddaughter. I works wonderfully. they also have a baby formula, but I use the regular one. it usually clears up in two treatments

ok I havn't read the other posts & I know this is really late posted but this is what I did. My son is adopted and he had really bad diaper rashes. I tried everything from changing diaper brands to different over the counter creams to Rx's from the doctor. My grandmother made me a powder that her family used for generations. It was one cup of corn starch & one heaping table spoon of boric acid. Mix it really well. She told me to put on the cream A&D and then put the powder mix on him twice a day. She said that during the day to just sooth it to just put the powder everytime we changed him or when they go to the bathroom. I'm not kidding you it was like instant miracle stuff. My son calls it his MawMaw Magic. I hope this helps you out.

One more vote for Boudreaux's Butt Paste!

Bathe your babies bottom in warm salt water, i.e Epsom, sea salt, regular table salt, Kosher salt, whatever you have on hand. Pat dry, blow dry on low with your hair dryer...babies love this and then use the Monistat cream. I've successfully warded off yeast infections with just the salt bath and blow dry routine. If you don't have Monistate cream around you can also apply a thin layer of PLAIN yogurt to her skin...same yeast fighting organisms.

Consider yeast dermatitis, clotrimazole or lotrimine could help but other thing to consider is zinc deficiency talk to you pediatrician if does not get better on lotrimin

Epsom salts soaking in shallow water bath was our cure for bad diaper rash and recommended by our Dr. and also to let her air out as often as you can for a while. We'd sit with her on a big layer of towels on the floor for bit and we use Balmex diaper cream and I have found it to be the best for our daughter.

i found that butt paste worked best on our son...but burts bees diaper rash cream works better for our daughter! dr.' smiths (i think) works well for both. when they are teething there poop has a bit more acid or something simular in it that does make them have diaper rash. if it gets worse i would take her in to the doc to get something really strong and make sure its not an allergic reaction to wipes or something like that! good luck hope her little bum is better soon.

Ask at your local pharmacy. They won't have it out on the shelf. I have my local CVS order it and it's behind the pharmacy counter. It's not any more expensive than Desitin, but works great.

Before I knew of that stuff though, my daughter had something similar. It was a type of yeast infection and I had to use a tiny amount of antifungal ointment mixed with her A&D.

Dr. Smith's ointment has my vote. :-)

If you have not tried it yet, (Sorry out of town), use AquaPhor (white and blue container). It is in the ointment aisle. It does not burn and should clear up BAAAAAAAAAD rashes, within 24 hours. It is a little expensive, but it does work. My pediatrician recommended it years ago.

My Dr. Had us wipe the baby's bottom down with a clean wet cloth or a wet cotton ball. (WIPES IRRITATE IT MORE) . He suggested we clean the area with iodine to remove bacteria or germ off the area then air dry or blow dry the area just to ensure its completely dry. (as moistness is a magnet to bacteria) and if you decide to add diaper rash ointment he suggest something very thick (boudroux butt paste or desitin) . I follwed his instructions and it really did work.

When I was younger an older woman told me to put my daughter in the pool, the chlorine would clear it up, instead I put at her suggestion a small amount of bleach (chlorine) in her bath water, (We as a city have chlorine already in our water so adding a little more will not hurt) The chlorine kills bacteria and that is what is making the rash. Give it a try and see if it works for you it did on my little ones and also my grandson.

Ask your pediatrician for a prescription for Nystatin--it's the best diaper rash cream and it was only $4 at WalMart when I got it for my baby a year ago. Good luck!

She may have a yeast infection requiring a prescription cream. Take her to the doctor to have it checked out! It's pretty common on babies of both genders.

I second the Boudreaux's Butt paste, it works great!
