My daughter is turning one in may and her theme will be finding nemo. Does anyone have ideas on using baby food jars as favors. I started collecting them and now i have no idea what to do with them.

sand art? A suggestion for a finding nemo game... put a little paper nemo (I used a sticker) inside of a blue baloon. Have a whole bunch of blue baloons and these are the ocean and have the kids pop the baloons to "Find nemo" We did this and the kids loved it.

Fill them with colored sand and sea shells or little star fish since you are having a finding nemo theme. Or maybe you could put live fish in the jars....Just a thought.

I got this idea yesterday from Laurie in my parents group: "A great craft idea is to use them to make snow globes. Rough up the inside of the lid with sandpaper, epoxy figurines to lid, add distilled water and tsp glycerin (I got mine at Rainbow Grocery), glitter, and seal it up (with epoxy, probably, although I never got around to that part). I also painted the lids before the project to make them look nicer."

Hey there,

I used my jars to make candles as a "thank you" party favor the adults that came. My theme was a luau, since we were having it at the pool. I went to the $.99 store and got a bunch of blue candles to melt down. Bought some wicks and small sea shells at the craft store. Grabbed some sand at the play ground and made the candles. I put a penny at the bottom from the year my daughter was born then the sand then the shells then the blue melted wax (use and old non stick pot and a paper cup to tranfer into the jar). I had labels made at Costco with her picture thanking everyone for coming and stuck in on the jar. It was a hit. One suggestion though I forgot to put a scent into them. You can get that at the craft store too. The whol thing cost me around $20.00. Hope that helped. Good Luck! That snowglobe idea is a great idea too! Wow I thinki will do that next!!

Hi there, theres a website for m&ms (I assume m&ms.com?) and theres a part of the site where you can order your own personalized m&ms, maybe that would be a cute idea for something you could put in the baby food jars. I did that for my daughters first bday with the colors I chose and I put her name on some and her birthday on the other color, it was quite cute!!

It depends on how creative you can be! You could make little make believe (Fake) fishbowls out of them by using blue watercolor and craft items. Glue sand or something on the bottom, make sure you use waterfriendly things (plastic fish maybe from a necklace craft kit or something) and seal it after you are done with hot glue so it cant be opened. Just an idea....Good Luck!

you could have all kinds of fun with the jars. you could fill them with colored water for the tables and fill them with something ( be creative) and tie balloons to them for center pieces on your tables. you could also fill them with a cute photo of the baby and a letter from baby to guests thanking them for coming all rolled up tied with ribbon and put in the jars that have been painted with glass paint with her b-day on it and her name or anything else you would want to paint on it. just have fun with it and get online and start looking for ideas, you'd be suprised how many ideas you can find online. I took empty baby jars for a baby shower and put the game paper and pens and candy in it after i painted them blue for a boy and wrote the due date and parents names on them. it was fun. use ribbons and fun things to decorate them.

Courney has a very good idea! only the baby jars
Not only that, but if you have more baby coming to the party, What you could put in their goodie bays is: baby cookies, cereal and bid( you could buy them at a $.99 store. things the babies will eat.

you could put goldfish in them (the food).

or...at my baby shower they used them as vases for small flower centerpieces. they bought ribbon and tied them around the middle for decoration using a glue gun or safety pins.

good luck

You can glue finding Nemo plastic figureens to the inside of the lids - the fill the jars with sparkles and colored water - then glue the lids on - makes cute snow globes....

Or glue the charectars on the tops of the lids and fill them with gummy fish or sharks....

Hi K., how about little Gold fish crackers, also can be a take home snack? To decorate the jar, you could get fishing supply at Target or Walmart, for example get some fish netting and wrap around entire jar and tie it was some kind of string or tackle stuff - so it looks like the fish are in a water tank (the jar) and have been caught in the net. And, if you have a fish bowl fill it up with the jars of fish. Or, go to the local pet store and get a few of the colorful corel props that go into a fish tank to decorate the table. Sounds like a fun parth theme, I have a daughter that's turning one May 3, I'm still thinking of a theme? Happy birthday to your daughter!!

You could put mints in the jars, put a finding nemo sticker on top of the lid, and wrap a ribbon around it! Hope this helps.

Maybe if you are having a lot of babies you could put baby treats - like the gerber puffs in there. Or if it most older kids you could put m and m's in there?
Just a thought.

Looks like other people are already onto the snowglobe/aquarium idea. Keep in mind that you really don't have to make this too fancy for kids to love it however. Some fish shaped confetti (www.orientaltraiding.com) a dash of silvery glitter, the blue food coloring to tint the water... I think one preschool teacher I know even used to put just a little mineral oil in the water, to give it an interesting look.

Then epoxy those lids down. You could even use a bit of duct tape (comes in just about any color at the hardware store) to reinforce. It also helps make the point for kids, and even adults, that it's not meant to be opened.

What makes it even easier that the standard snowglobes is that you can keep the lid side up, which invites less potential leaking.

You can personalize M&M's at mymms.com place them in the jars after dressing them up a bit with some ribbon. At your local party supply store you can purchase label making kits to create on your computer. I've done this for my son's birthday parties.

You could print a baby picture or a 1yr picture of her and alaminate them and type her name and birthday and glue them on like lables and fill them with jelly beans or something colorfull. Ooh, first birthday...how exciting! Have a blast. The only thing I wish I did differently at my sons was enjoy myself a little more. It will be great whatever you decide. Cute idea.

You could put small gummy fish in them that look like Nemo OR (since it is for 1 year olds) regular or flavored Goldfish would be cute. I know they make chocolate ones. THen, go to a party store and get blank white labels and Nemo stickers. Put the white one on the jar, and then put one or two Nemo stickers on the label and write the guest's name on it. You could even get blue foil or cellophane and cover the lid wtih it adn wrap a rubber band around it so it'd look cool. OR you could wrap the blue cellophane around the bottom and present the favors upside down so it would look like fish swimming in the icean.

Just a thought!

Have a great time!! I am not sure if you want to do an art project with the kids or not...you would need SOME help from parents if the guests are only 1, but can be done!

You will need:
Salt (LOTS)
Sidewalk chalk
paper bowls
Dixie cups
funnels
ribbon-for decoration
stickers-for decoration
extra scraps of fabric-for decoration

Ok....you measure our enough salt that would fill the baby food jar and put it in the dixie cup. Then, you have the children pour as much of the salt into their bowl as they want. Then, they take a piece of chalk and stir it around the salt. The chalk color will make the salt the same color. Then, when they like the color, they take the funnel and pour it into their jar. Continue until all the salt is gone.

Some will use ALL the salt for 1 color, others will get creative and "layer" the colors. All is fine. Just remind them, that if they layer and then shake it wont keep the colors as separated as they expect. It will actually just become a blob of salt.

When the jar is full, put the lid on and tie a ribbon around it and put a sticker on top or you can cut a piece of scrap fabric for the lid and then die the ribbon around that for decoration.

Have fun!! It is a GREAT project...but can get a little messy with the excess salt...but the kids LOVE it!!
