Baby Sleeping on Stomach

My eight month old started crawling and standing in his crib about two weeks ago. Sleep has become a challenge. When I put him down he almost always immediately stands up and cries. We've discovered that when he does fall asleep it's often on his tummy. I've tried flipping him over but he just wakes up and the whole thing starts again. Any suggestions regarding how to get him to sleep (we've tried crying it out but it just lasts so long) or how to get him to sleep on his back would be appreciated. Also, if you think he's okay at eight month sleeping on his tummy, let me know. Thanks!

What can I do next?

It's okay...it's seems he's gotten to the age whereby he can put himself into a "comfy" sleep position by himself...a position that he likes to sleep in.

My son and daughter did the same thing... it's fine. As long as he is able to flip himself over in both directions by now...he's also standing already, so his gross motor skills seems on par.

Just let him sleep on his tummy...most kids sleep better this way, and he is past the 6 month old mark...so that's good.
I was so happy when my kids reached this point in mobility...then, they "can" put themselves to sleep better...and it helps their self-soothing skills too.

All the best,
~Susan

It is fine at this age to sleep on their tummy-my son always wanted to sleep on his tummy. Just keep the crib safe of a bunch of toys, blankets, etc. L.

Once a baby can roll over and have muscle control over their head movement, it isn't so dangerous to sleep on their tummy. At his age I wouldn't worry about only back sleeping, its too hard. Now that he knows he can move around, just make sure the environment is safe. Keep the crib clear of toys, animals and loose blankets, etc. so nothing could rest up against his head. Always leave the crib rail up so he doesn't topple out when standing.

let him sleep on his tummy hes 8mo so hes strong enough to push and pull himself up to avoid sufficating. my daughter rarely slept on her back till about a year. hes perfectly ok being on his tummy to sleep besides hes rolling so its hard to avoid.
